Session 5 - Beholding The God Of Limitless Love & Mercy Romans 8:31-39 Introduction: Seeing God as He has revealed Himself in His Word is the key to finding rest for our burdened souls. QUESTIONS. I. Rest For Burdened Souls Comes From Meditation On The Character of God - Isaiah 26:3. A. Peace in one’s soul is a gift from God. B. He gives peace to those whose minds are captivated by meditation on His own person. C. He gives peace to those who not only know about Him, but trust in Him. Therefore: If I desire to have peace in my soul, I must regularly meditate on the character of God. II. God’s Love & Mercy For His Adopted Children Are As Limitless As His Love For His Son Jesus Christ - Romans 8:31-39. A. God’s love for us is greater than anyone or anything against us (31). B. God’s love will never fail to give us what we need to follow Him (32). C. God’s love for us is as sure as the finished work of Jesus (33-34). D. God’s love will not be separated from us by any difficult circumstance (35). E. God’s love for us remains despite great oppression and attack (36). F. God’s love for us gives us victory in the midst of difficult circumstances (37). G. God’s love cannot be stopped by anyone, anywhere, at any time, in any way, because His love for us is as sure as His love for Jesus (38-39). Therefore: Because absolutely nothing can separate us from God’s love, we can rest assured that we will receive His mercy instead of His wrath. III. Meditating On God’s Limitless Love Brings Rest For Our Burdened Souls. A. Remember the promise of Isaiah - God’s peace is given by Him to those whose minds are fixed firmly on Him. B. Consider God’s love applied to the following difficulties: 1. Temptation says: “Since God doesn’t love me and give me the good things I should have, I must get them for myself.” God says: Romans 8:31-32. 1. 2. 3. 4. God’s Word is clear that peace in our souls is found by meditating on the Lord and His character, and yet, too often we fail to meditate deeply on the person of God. Why do we have this tendency? What things frequently keep us from seriously meditating on the person of God? What type of circumstances can tempt us to doubt God’s love? This passage references painful multiple types of painful circumstances that we as God’s people may face. How is it that God can allow us to face such circumstances and still say that He has perfect and unshakeable love for us?
