Isaiah and the people were going through a rough time
God was prophesying captivity
and destruction of Israel and the temple
then in chapter 9 we see the Messiah
there is a favorite Christmas card quote
Unto us a child is born
this is taken from our text today
Read Isaiah 9 6.
we have been reading the ancient creeds about the Deity of Christ
and the Manhood of Jesus
this will be our topic this morning
A child is born
a Son is given
this is not repetition
here it is speaking of the humanity of Jesus
and the deity of Christ

We celebrate the birth of Jesus
The angel came to Mary told her that She would be pregnant
The Holy Spirit put Jesus into her womb
when the time was right the Baby was born to the virgin Mary
when Jesus was a toddler
He was sought after to be killed by Harod
Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Get up! Take the Child and His mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is going to search for the Child to destroy Him.”
Jesus was asleep in the boat because He was exhausted
this person Jesus was a man in every way
He has a body, soul, and spirit
just like anyone of us
The blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin
He is totally human
If He was not He could not be our substitute
Jesus grieved at the tomb of Lazarus
He had empathy for the woman at the well in Samaria
Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem when they rejected Him
Jesus was tempted by satan to sin when He was weak from hunger
not only was Jesus totally Human He is Devine

We have been given a gift— Emmanuel God with us
Jesus is the exact representation of the Father
the exact representation of the nature of God
who is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power; who, having accomplished cleansing for sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Micah tells us that God the Son is from everlasting
“But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from everlasting, From the ancient days.”
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”

God the Son who has been from everlasting to everlasting was given to fallen humanity as a gift
totally human and
totally God

this gift is reconciliation between man and God

the Eternal Son allowed Himself to be put into the virgin Mary to be born a baby
to become one of us the creatures that the Father through the Son created.
the created perfect Adam who fell and took all of his offspring with him in this fall
and in order for us to be saved
The Father sent His Son to be the savior of the world
