Historical Context

Isaiah served as a Prophet of God to the tribe of Judah around 740 B.C.
We step in to the book at chapter 40 where we transition from themes of condemnation and judgment, to consolation and comfort.
Isaiah has just prophesied the conquering of Jerusalem by Babylon

1931The place is prepared; are you prepared for it? Do you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ? If so, your preparation has begun. Do you love the Lord and love his people? If so, your preparation is going on. Do you hate sin, and do you pant after holiness? If so, your preparation is progressing. Is Jesus your all in all? Then you are almost ready. May the Lord keep you in that condition and before long swing up the gates of pearl and let you into the prepared place!—47.526
