Here’s a 7-point sermon based on Matthew 6:34 (NKJV) with illustrations and additional scriptures to enhance the message.

Title: Living for Today: Trusting God with Tomorrow

1. Trust God for the Future

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 – "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding..."
Isaiah 26:3-4 – "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in Yah, the Lord, is everlasting strength."Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Illustration: A tightrope walker carrying a wheelbarrow over Niagara Falls asked a spectator, “Do you believe I can do this?” The spectator said, “Yes!” The walker replied, “Then get in the wheelbarrow.” True trust means placing our weight fully on God.

2. God’s Grace is Sufficient for Today

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
Lamentations 3:22-23 – "Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."Psalm 46:1-2 – "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed..."
Illustration: A traveler carrying an overloaded backpack struggled on a journey. A kind passerby asked why they didn’t remove some items. The traveler said, "What if I need them tomorrow?" Similarly, we often carry unnecessary burdens.

3. Worry Robs You of Today’s Joy

Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 – "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God..."
Luke 12:25-26 – "And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?"Proverbs 12:25 – "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad."
Illustration: A man worrying about his debts couldn't enjoy a lavish meal provided by a friend. His focus on the future stole the joy of the present blessing.

4. Tomorrow is Beyond Our Control

Scripture: James 4:13-15 – "You who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city... instead you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills...'"
Ecclesiastes 11:4 – "He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap."Psalm 37:5 – "Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.
Illustration: A farmer built bigger barns to store his crops, planning for years of ease, only to die that night (Luke 12:16-21). Planning is wise, but obsessing about control is futile.

5. Focus on God’s Kingdom Today

Scripture (from the context): Matthew 6:33 – "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
Colossians 3:2 – "Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."Romans 14:17 – "For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
Illustration: A gardener focused on planting seeds daily rather than worrying about whether they’d grow. His faithful effort ensured a bountiful harvest.

6. God is Already in Tomorrow

Deuteronomy 31:8 – "And the Lord, He is the one who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."Matthew 28:20b – "...and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Illustration: A child holding her father’s hand asked, "What if I fall?" The father replied, "I’m already watching the next step ahead of you." God sees our future and prepares the way.

7. Live Each Day with Purpose

Scripture: Psalm 118:24 – "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Ephesians 5:15-16 – "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."Psalm 90:12 – "So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
Illustration: A teacher gave her students blank sheets of paper and asked them to write what they could do today to make a difference. Many students realized they were missing opportunities to live meaningfully each day.

Closing Thought:

God’s message is clear—focus on today, trust Him for tomorrow, and live with the assurance that His grace is sufficient. Each day is a gift to be lived with faith and purpose.
Reinforce the idea that God’s Word repeatedly invites us to live with trust, focus on His presence, and faith in His provision. By saturating the sermon with scripture, you provide a firm foundation for your audience to draw closer to God's promises.
