Unshakeable Hope: Trusting in God's Sovereign Plan
Unshakeable Hope: Trusting in God's Sovereign Plan
We receive a profound assurance from recognizing God's sovereignty in the incarnation, seeing how each detail of Christ's entrance into the world underscores God's purposeful control throughout history, from prophecy to fulfillment.
Perhaps the greatest place where we see Gods sovereign control over all things is in his incarnation. It is is here we see God fulfilling his plan in the weakest condition, as a baby. You can’t be more weaker or dependent than a baby.
For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
God's sovereignty provides a foundation for unwavering faith. It encourages us to see our lives within the broader narrative of God's redemptive history, where every moment is under His control and guidance.
Micah 5:2 (ESV)
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.
Christ embodies the ultimate expression of God's sovereignty, where His birth, life, and sacrificial death were all part of a divinely orchestrated plan aimed at redemption. This foreshadows the eternal reign of Christ and emphasizes that God's kingdom continues to unfold through His sovereign will.
Micah's prophecy concerning Bethlehem illustrates God's sovereign plan, demonstrating how He orchestrates history down to the smallest places and details. This passage assures us that if God can bring about the Savior from humble Bethlehem, He can absolutely be trusted with the details of our lives.
1. Promise of a Miracle
1. Promise of a Miracle
Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
Here we see God's control over events as Isaiah prophesies the virgin birth, showing His power in fulfilling His promises in miraculous and unexpected ways. This assures us that God can work beyond natural limitations, providing hope that His plans for us will prevail against all odds.
2. Presence in Uncertainty
2. Presence in Uncertainty
Matthew 1:18–25 (ESV)
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
Matthew's account of the angel's message to Joseph serves as a picture of God's ongoing involvement and assurance in our personal affairs. This can encourage us that just as God guided Joseph through uncertainty, He is present to guide us, reinforcing our trust in His active plan for our lives.
4. Perfection of Timing
4. Perfection of Timing
Galatians 4:4–5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
The fullness of time mentioned in Galatians serves as a reminder that God's timing is perfect, reflecting His sovereignty over historical and personal timelines. This encourages us to trust in God’s perfect timing in our own lives, reinforcing our confidence in His redemptive purposes.
Believing in Gods sovereignty reminds us, we can’t force the issue and make things happen before their time. Everything is subjected to his timing not ours, this causes us to trust him and wait on him, being content, even though our situation isn’t perfect.
