Revelation 1:18 ("I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.")
“Jesus Has the Keys.” Revelation 1:18 reveals to us a powerful truth—Jesus, our Savior, holds the keys of death and Hades. These keys signify authority, power, and control.
Point 1: Jesus Conquered Death
“O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
When Jesus rose from the grave, He broke the power of death. Death no longer has the final say for those who belong to Him.
Illustration: Imagine being locked in a dark prison with no hope of escape. Then someone unlocks the door and sets you free. This is what Jesus did when He rose from the grave. He unlocked the prison of death for all who trust in Him.
Encouragement: Whatever you’re facing today, remember that Jesus’ victory over death guarantees your victory too
Point 2: Jesus Has Authority Over All Things
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
Jesus’ authority extends over life, death, heaven, and earth. Nothing is outside His control.
Illustration: A CEO with the master key to every door in their building signifies complete authority. Jesus’ authority is far greater—His keys unlock every situation in our lives.
Encouragement: Trust that Jesus’ authority is at work in your circumstances, no matter how impossible they seem.
Point 3: Jesus’ Keys Unlock Eternal Life
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus opened the door to eternal life for all who believe in Him.
Illustration: Picture a locked treasure chest filled with priceless riches. Jesus holds the key and opens it, giving us access to the greatest treasure—eternal life with Him.
Encouragement: Rejoice that eternal life is secure in Christ.
Point 4: Jesus Unlocks Freedom From Sin
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Jesus holds the keys to release us from sin’s grip. His grace empowers us to live in freedom.
Illustration: A prisoner set free from chains can finally walk in liberty. Jesus breaks the chains of addiction, guilt, and shame, setting us free to live for Him.
Encouragement: Embrace the freedom that Jesus offers and walk in His grace daily.
Point 5: Jesus Opens Doors No One Can Shut**
“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write,
‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.
The key of the house of David
I will lay on his shoulder;
So he shall open, and no one shall shut;
And he shall shut, and no one shall open.
Jesus’ authority ensures that no one can thwart His plans for your life.
Illustration: A child trying to push open a locked door cannot succeed until a parent unlocks it. Jesus opens the right doors for us at the right time.
Encouragement: Trust Him to open doors of opportunity, provision, and blessing in your life.
Point 6: Jesus Shuts Doors For Our Protection
The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.
The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in
From this time forth, and even forevermore.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Jesus also uses His keys to close doors that would lead to harm or derail His purposes.
Illustration: A shepherd closes the gate to protect sheep from predators. In the same way, Jesus shuts harmful doors for our safety.
Encouragement: Thank Him for closed doors, knowing they are part of His loving plan.
Point 7: Jesus Invites Us to Share His Victory
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Jesus’ victory becomes our victory. Through Him, we overcome every trial and challenge.
Illustration: A victorious sports team invites its fans onto the field to celebrate. Jesus shares His triumph with us, inviting us to live as conquerors.
Encouragement: Step into the victory Jesus has won for you and live with confidence.
Conclusion:
Jesus has the keys! He holds the authority over death, sin, and every aspect of our lives. As we trust Him, He unlocks eternal life, freedom, and victory.
Call to Action:
1. If you have never accepted Jesus as your Savior, today is the day to step into the freedom and life He offers.
2. If you’re facing challenges, remember His authority and trust Him to open and close doors for your good.
3. Let us all commit to living in the confidence that Jesus’ keys bring, walking boldly in His power and grace.
