The First Great Awakening (1730s–1740s) This revival swept through Britain and the American colonies, led by figures like Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, and John Wesley. It emphasized personal salvation, deep repentance, and the sovereignty of God in salvation. Churches grew dramatically, and new denominations emerged.

The Second Great Awakening (1790s–1840s) Centered in the United States, this revival spurred massive evangelistic efforts, camp meetings, and social reforms. Leaders like Charles Finney emphasized personal choice in salvation and the importance of living a holy life. It birthed movements for abolition, temperance, and women's suffrage.
