Welcome to another Sunday School at Harbor Baptist Church.
Last week we finished the first 17 verses of Proverbs 16. This morning we are going to start on the second half, verses 18-33.
But, before we begin, [xxx] would you pray for us?
Let’s again review, could someone please read: Proverbs 16:22-33?
Proverbs 16:22–33 NKJV
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly. 23 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips. 24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. 25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 26 The person who labors, labors for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on. 27 An ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on his lips like a burning fire. 28 A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends. 29 A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way that is not good. 30 He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips and brings about evil. 31 The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness. 32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. 33 The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord.
Proverbs 16:22-28 - Being Deceived
Verse 22 - Understanding is the wellspring of life for who? (those who have it).
Correction, though, for the fool is what? (foolishness).

By his heart teaching him what to say he adds what? (learning to his words).
Verse 24 - Pleasant words are like a what? (honeycomb).
Sweetness to the soul is what? (health to the bones).
Verse 25 - There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is what? (the way of death).
Verse 26 - One who labors does so for who? (himself). What drives him? (his hunger).
Verse 27 - The ungodly man does what? (digs up evil). It is in his words like what? (a burning fire).
Verse 28 - A perverse man does what? (sows strife).
A whisper (or gossip) separates the best of who? (friends).
Discussion Question: Why are we so prone to deception? To delusion. To be deceived and deceiving ourselves?
Proverbs 16:29-33 - Violence and Old Age
Verse 29 - a violent man entices who? (his neighbor)
The violent man leads his neighbor in a way that is not what? (good).
Verse 30 - The violent man winks his eye in an attempt to do what? (devise perverse things)
The violent man purses his lips (gets ready to speak) and does what? (brings about evil).
Verse 31 - the silver-haired head is a what? (a crown of glory).
But only if that silver-hair is found in the way of what? (righteousness).
Verse 32 - The one who is slow to anger is better than who? (the mighty)
The one who rules his spirit is better than who? (the one who takes a city).
Verse 33 - The lot is cast where? (into the lap).
But all of the decisions made by the lot belong to who? (the Lord).
Discussion Question: Being slow to anger is a major theme in Proverbs and in the Wisdom Literature as a whole. Why is this? What New Testament verse does this bring to mind? (James 1:19).
In Conclusion:
This is the end of Proverbs chapter 16. We have 15 more chapters to go before we finish this book. This means we are over the halfway mark, so it is all downhill from here.
Next week we will be jumping into chapter 17, so please prepare ahead of time to discuss.
[xxxx] could you please pray for us?
