Introduction
Luke 24:32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
The word “burn” indicates a fire that is consuming, blazing, raging within the believer. This fellowship with the Saviour changed them and these believers had a craving to know Him more closely and intimately. Communion with the Saviour will change us also just as communion changed these believers. The one thing that will ignite our hearts is spending time with Jesus. The apostle Paul had a burning desire to be as close to the Lord Jesus as he possible could in this life.
Philippians 3:8–10 “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”
Enoch And Noah walked with God and had personal, intimate communion with God. These two men serve as a great example of the desire within the soul of a believer to have communion with God. These two agreed with God on all points and therefore walked with Him and had sweet communion.
Amos 3:3 “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
Genesis 5:24 “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.”
Genesis 6:9 “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.”
Missionary Jim Elliot said, “God makes His ministers a flame of fire.” We must ask ourselves, “Am I ignitable?” Our hearts must be God’s home. Let me give you three ways in which we may possess True Hearts of Communion
We Must Appropriate the Purity of Christ to Fill Our Minds - To Appropriate means: “to take to one’s self in exclusion of others; to claim or use as by exclusive right.” Our minds should be fastened on the Lord Jesus Christ. Our minds are the epicenters of our being. The mind is “Ground Zero!” We must pray that our minds be brought under the subjection and submission to the Holy Spirit that He may fill them with the purity of Christ. Keep out of your life ALL that will keep Christ out of your mind!
Isaiah 26:3–4 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:”
Proverbs 23:7 “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.”
Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
We Must Apply the Precepts of Christ to Guide Our Manners - To Apply means: “to use or employ for a particular purpose, or in a particular case; as, to apply a sum of money to the payment of a debt.” Jesus commanded us to “keep” HIs commandments. The commandments that Jesus gives are completely executable. The commandments of Christ are not a yoke of bondage, but they are provisions of freedom.
1 John 2:5 “But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”
1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”
We Must Accomplish the Purposes of Christ to Fulfill Our Mission - To Accomplish means: “to complete; to finish entirely.” We should cherish and hold dear God’s plan for our lives. The Lord would have us to grow where we are planted. As we make our way through this life and in the present moment the Lord Jesus will reveal His specific purpose for us. We all have a purpose that He desires us to fulfill for His glory.
1 Timothy 1:3 “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,”
His purpose for your life involves waiting
His purpose for your life involves staying
His purpose for your life involves seeking
