This week we are concluding our Christmas Series where we have taken a deeper look into the Four Names that Isaiah stated that the coming Messiah would be known for.
Let’s take one more look at Isaiah Chapter 9
Isaiah 9:6–7 CSB
6 For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the Lord of Armies will accomplish this.
Let’s Pray.
So far we have broken down:

Wonderful Counselor

Remember that the First word in all of these Titles is a Verb. Stating what Kind of Title the Messiah would be.
I really like how the Dictionary of Biblical Languages Breaks down the Hebrew word for Wonderful.

an astounding thing which causes a feeling or attitude of intense amazement

For Counselor

counselor, adviser, i.e., one who speaks and urges certain directions of actions or thought, implying the advice given is considered wise and valuable

Mighty God

Mighty God, i.e., title of One on David’s throne (Isa 9:6; 10:21), note: the idiom may have a focus on the might or power of the individual and not the deity, based on the meaning of אֵל (ʾēl), though others see it as a crux for the deity of Messiah, see also domain LN 12; 4. LN 37.48–37.95 unit: אֵל גִּבּוֹר (ʾēl gib·bôr) mighty leader (Eze 32:21+)

God, i.e., a title of the true God, with a focus on the might and power of God

Eternal Father

forever, eternal, for ever and ever, continual, always, i.e., an unlimited duration of time, without end, and without reference to other points or units of time

founder, originator, i.e., one who causes something to begin

caregiver, formally, father, i.e., one who cares for persons in need, as a figurative extension of a father caring for a child’s needs

And Today we are going to Look at his title as

Prince of Peace

As I began to look at this one I was kind of puzzled. Why is the noun first.
So I dove in a little deeper.
In translating this title to English it just roles off the tongue to say Prince of Peace.
You get to Punctuate the P’s
Prince of Peace.
However, When you take it back to the Hebrew
Prince is actually the Verb and Action
and
Peace is actually the Noun
Peace is a Noun in English however How do you Prince something.
The Hebrew word here is Sarar
Which is better Translated at Superintend.
Which means to be in charge or oversee a task with implied authority.
Jesus is the Overseer of Peace.
Think about that Isaiah is telling this Nation that is under attack, that is about to know no peace, Who from this time until the Messiah shows up will fight for the right to exist.
This is what so many of us don’t understand.
There are entire nations that not only want to push Isreal off of their land they want all Jews to be killed and wiped out of existence.
Isreal from Isaiahs time to now has been fighting for their Right to Exist.
Many people sitting here in this room think So What? They rejected Jesus They deserve this.
But let me remind you if we can believe that God gave up on his Promises and all Hope for the Jews what is stopping him from Giving up on Us. We are no better in our failures and sinful nature.
Isaiah is prophesying that the coming Messiah will be the Overseer of Peace.
The Hebrew word for Peace here is
Salom
This word encompasses so many meanings.
As we have looked at these titles we have looked at how all of them have a past, present, and future glory.
So first let’s look at the Meanings.
Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Hebrew (Old Testament) (8934 שָׁלוֹם)
1. Peace and Prosperity, i.e., an intact state of favorable circumstance (1Sa 1:17);
2. Completeness, i.e., the state of a totality of a collection (Jer 13:19);
3. Safeness or Salvation, i.e., a state of being free from danger (Ge 28:21);
4. Health, i.e., a state of lack of disease and a wholeness or well-being (Ps 38:4[EB 3]);
5. Satisfaction or Contentment, i.e., the state of having one’s basic needs or more being met and so being content (Ex 18:23);
6. Friend or Companion, i.e., one who has an association with another with affection or regard (Jer 20:10);
7. Blessing, i.e., the content of the act of giving kindness to another (Jer 16:5);
So let me break this down for your
Jesus was, is, and will be eternally

The Overseer of Peace and Prosperity, Completeness, Salvation, Health, Satisfaction, Friendship, and Blessing.

You might say that we don’t see that today and you would be right.
Outside of a Relationship with Jesus.
John 3:16–17 CSB
16 For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
The truth is that Physical Safety and Political Harmony is not promised until the Second Coming of Jesus.
That is the Blessed Hope.
The Peace we Experience now is only found through relationship and discipleship from Jesus.
Peace is only found in restored fellowship with God which is only available through that Relationship with Jesus.
Romans 5:1 CSB
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:8 CSB
8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:10 CSB
10 For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
Jesus’ death created the path to restoration but in reflecting His life we find fellowship with God.
John 10:27–28 CSB
27 My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.
So even though we see no peace in the world around us we can have peace in putting our trust in Jesus and Following His Path.

How Do We Follow That Path?

Through the influence of the Holy Spirit.
John 16:7 CSB
7 Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:13 CSB
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own, but he will speak whatever he hears. He will also declare to you what is to come.
It is through the guiding of the Holy Spirit We can Experience the Fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22–23 CSB
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
So what this is saying that when we allow the Holy Spirit to Guide us the Overseer of Peace creates Fruit in our lives that Mirrors,

Peace and Prosperity, Completeness, Salvation, Health, Satisfaction, Friendship, and Blessing

I heard a pastor preach something on fruit this week.
Fruit isn’t for the tree. Apple Trees don’t eat Apples, Orange Trees don’t eat Oranges.
The Tree eats Sunlight and The things given to it by God. The Fruit is eaten by others.

What are you eating?

Everyone around you can tell by the fruit you are producing.
Those who reflect the Overseer of Peace Reflect
Ephesians 4:1–3 CSB
1 Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
Church when Jesus returns and sets up his Millennial Reign and then Ultimately the New Heaven and New Earth we are going to experience True Peace being Dished out Eternally by Jesus.
But until that time we Can Trust in the Words of Jesus.
John 14:27 CSB
27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.
John 16:33 CSB
33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
James bluntly tells us
James 1:2 CSB
2 Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials,
So how can we experience Peace knowing that we must endure trials and suffering.
Philippians 4:6–7 CSB
6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
We Experience Peace when we come before the Overseer of Peace.
Through Prayer and Petition.
Please Stand with me this morning.
