Psalm 119:25-32

2. The Prayer for Renewal (v. 27-29)

Verse 27: "Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works."

Understanding God’s Word: The psalmist prays for illumination to understand God’s precepts.

Application: The Holy Spirit grants us understanding as we meditate on God’s Word (1 Cor. 2:14).

Testimony of Transformation: "I will talk of thy wondrous works."

Application: When God revives us, our testimony will naturally point others to His greatness.

Verse 28: "My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word."

The Condition: His soul "melts" under the weight of sorrow, grief, or trials.

Application: Many believers experience seasons of deep emotional and spiritual heaviness.

The Source of Strength: "Strengthen thou me according unto thy word."

God’s Word gives strength and comfort in our weakness (Isaiah 40:29–31“29 He giveth power to the faint; And to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; They shall run, and not be weary; And they shall walk, and not faint.” )

Verse 29: "Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously."

Turning from Deception: The psalmist prays for deliverance from deceit—whether personal sin, falsehood, or worldly lies.

Application: Revival involves a turning away from sin and walking in truth.

Receiving God’s Law: He pleads for God’s gracious instruction and Word.

3. The Commitment to Obedience (v. 30-32)

Verse 30: "I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me."

A Deliberate Choice: He resolves to walk in the "way of truth" by choosing God’s Word as his guide.

Application: Revival is marked by a deliberate commitment to obey God’s truth.

Verse 31: "I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame."

Verse 32: "I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart."

Running in God’s Strength: The psalmist moves from weakness to running—signifying zeal, joy, and freedom in obedience.

"Enlarge my heart" refers to God empowering and expanding his capacity to love and obey Him.
