these are words reserved for people.

Jesus is a person

Jesus is not an idea just to be thought about,

Jesus is not a tradition to be remembered or celebrated

Jesus is not a philosophy to be followed

Jesus is not a set of rules to be upheld

Jesus is a person to be known

to us a CHILD is born, to us a SON is given

Jesus is a person

treat him as a person

don’t just think about him, talk to him

don’t just know about him, know him

don’t just read about him, walk with him

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

What does Jesus have to do with government and why talk about it on christmas?

kids, what is a government?

presidents, kings, mayors,

they lead, they rule, they organize and they protect (thats the idea at least)

there is a government in every home

moms and dads are governments

protect: moms and dads in a home, protect their kids from everything ranging from falling down the stairs to getting too cold when you go outside to play in the snow

-you have to wear gloves and a beanie

provide: food, clothes, a bed. but most important, love, they listen, they help you in any way to be everything you need to be

-Jesus says, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” Mk 9:35–10:43.

Jesus has come as the leader of the home to serve us and protect us and provide for us

this is the difference between a good president and a bad president

this is the difference between a good mom or dad or a bad mom or dad

do they live to serve or to be served?

He carries the house upon his shoulder

not under his foot, as a tyrant

not in his right hand like a tool

Jesus carries us like a child on his shoulders

Jesus came to serve you, long before you would ever serve him

don’t forget that most important truth

Christmas is about what God has done for you

not what you do for him

Peace is a person. his name is Jesus.

Another thing people have is nicknames,

do you have any nicknames?

sometimes a person’s nickname is a creative twist on their real name

ie: kids in our church: Abraham, Abe or Rooka, Roo or Ryland, Ry-guy

ie: my brother Dylan, we call him “Pickle”

How did we get there? well, we started calling Dylan, Dill, then Dill Pickle, and now just Pickle

sometimes people have nicknames because of what they are like

ie: Eric, The Woodsman

Eric leads our set up team at this church. If he wasn’t married with two kids, he would live in a cabin in the mountains. He loves hiking and camping. He can throw axes, tell you the names of all kinds of wild plants and tell you what their good for and even make a fire when its wet outside.

Eric is the Woodsman.

because of who he is

Jesus is a person, but not just a person like you and me. Jesus is the person of God

counselor-

most of us think of a psychologist or family or marriage counselor. That’s good.

kings also had counselors, people of great wisdom to help them make the best decision in the midst of a very complicated life full of tough decisions every day.

similar to a marriage or family counselor who asks the hard questions, gives you powerful insights and helps you live the best life you can.

Counselors exist to give wisdom and direction. To teach us and help us walk the right path in life

Parents are the most important counselors in the lives of their kids

kids, your parents are always there to teach you, lead you, support you and help you in any way you need it.

Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor

it means that God is for you,

God loves helping you

God wants to lead you to living the very best life

God is not in the heavens just looking at you and watching you live your life and judging you

God wants to live life with you

Jesus is God with us

Jesus is the way we live life with God

He is God with us

through his word,

he tells us who he is and his teachings and life story are written down for us

Through his spirit (presence)

Jesus hears our prayers and is quick to help us when we call on him

Jesus speaks to us and leads us through his Spirit when we go to him

maybe some of you have counselors who you see weekly and spend a rich hour of conversation with revealing your heart, your hurts, your life story and seeking healing

thats great keep it up

but it is meaningless without Jesus. the wonderful counselor

Imagine if you spent an hour a week in the presence of the God.

he knows you because he created you,

he came to you and died for you because he loves you,

and he stuck around with his Holy Spirit to be with you because he likes you.

Jesus is called the wonderful counselor because he is with us and for us

Mighty God

this little baby, this child born to us is called Mighty God!

nobody, absolutely nobody can get away with having this nickname unless they can prove it

what is the mighty, all-powerful, all-knowing, creator and king of everything- God doing as a baby on Earth?
