"As we hold these candles tonight, consider how their light reveals the heart of Christmas:
Like this flame before you, imagine a person whose presence illuminates the space around them. Their inner light isn't harsh, but warm and inviting - drawing others closer, like moths to a gentle flame. When storms of life threaten to extinguish their flame, they remain steady, fed by something deeper than circumstance.
Their joy glows consistently, not like a sparkler that quickly burns out, but like a well-tended flame. They can share their light with those in darkness and rejoice when other lights shine bright. Their love spreads like fire - one flame lighting another, then another, warming cold places and illuminating hope for the struggling.
This flame-bearer isn't perfect. They know moments when their light dims. But what defines them is their constant turning toward the source of all light - like a flame reaching upward, always seeking hope, choosing peace, radiating joy, spreading love.
This Christmas Eve, as we pass the light, may we carry these gifts of Christ - not just as wicks waiting to be lit, but as flames ready to transform our world."
In essence, they reflect the heart of Christmas - God's ongoing invitation to transformation, not as a distant concept, but as a lived, breathing reality.
John 1:5 NIV
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
May we all shine our lights this Christmas, and always— knowing that the light that is inside us, cannot be overcome by darkness.
