What does the term “Grassroots” mean? The most basic level of an activity or organization; ordinary people regarded as the main body of an organization/activity
To start today, I want to dive into the history of FCA.
A college basketball coach named Don McClanen, who’s life was changed by Jesus, wrote a letter to 19 athletes that laid out his idea to form what we call FCA
November 10, 1954, in Norman, OK, was the official chartering date for the group
It was started by a coach FOR the athletes/students so they could then carry and continue to pass down this responsibility of reaching athletes and students of all kinds for the Kingdom.
So what does this have to do with you? In 2024? In today’s culture and world?
Because of what God did in Don McClanen’s life, he passed it on to those 19 athletes through forming FCA. Through those 19 athletes and beyond, each have been tasked with the responsibility of carrying the torch.
YOUR NUMBER IS UP.
In today’s culture, you, as students in Tahlequah Public schools, have the opportunity to steward a grassroots revival. What that means is that you, through the power of the Holy Spirit working in you and through you, ARE the revival this world needs to see. You have the opportunity to present what Jesus can do through how you live your life. If he has changed you, you are called to present that change that is possible to be replicated to the world.
You say you want “revival”, but are YOU willing to pay the price?
You say you want “change”, but are YOU willing to change to see a change?
You say you want to “see things be different”, but are YOU willing to be different?
Paul says it like this, “Galatians 1:10 “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
At some point, you have to make the decision just like Paul did…am I trying to win the approval of man or of God? You cannot serve both.
You will either experience momentary pleasure pleasing man and end up feeling unfulfilled and tossed around by their ever-changing ideas or you will experience a lifetime of pleasure in Jesus who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Your calling may differ from season to season (Ex. HS to college, college to adulthood), your assignment may change, but the goal will remain the same: doing what is pleasing to the Lord
I will leave you with this: Ephesians 5:8–11 “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them.”
Today, if you feel like you can’t confidently say you have a relationship with Jesus, you can make that decision today. Come talk to me, Mrs.Stewart, or Mrs.Lasater. We can help you begin this journey of not just going to church or youth group to go, but actually entering into this personal relationship with Jesus, where you can discover more about Him through prayer, His Word, and worship.
If you would say confidently you have that relationship with Jesus, what are you doing with this opportunity called FCA in your schools? Is it just a place you can snag free food and a change of scenery? Is it a place you see that can become a community of faith that can impact and encourage your fellow students?
If yes, take initiative! Get creative
