Personal Story
Acknowledgment of Pain: Address the reality of church hurt—acknowledge the betrayal, hypocrisy, or legalism that may have driven people away.
Big Idea: While the church can wound, God’s love and His purpose for the church are still worth pursuing.
Main Points
Main Points
1. When Church Hurts, God Still Heals
1. When Church Hurts, God Still Heals
Text: Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Acknowledge the Wound: The church is made up of broken people, which means mistakes will happen.
Separate God from the Pain: God is not the one who caused the hurt—He’s the one who wants to bring healing.
Illustration: The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)—a reminder that healing often comes in unexpected ways.
Challenge: Are you open to letting God begin the healing process?
2. Jesus Never Left the Church
2. Jesus Never Left the Church
Text: Matthew 16:18 – “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it.”
God’s Design: Jesus built the church as His body on earth, imperfect but still His bride (Ephesians 5:25-27).
Jesus’ Example: Even when His followers abandoned, betrayed, or misunderstood Him, Jesus never turned away from them.
Illustration: Peter’s denial (Luke 22:61-62) and restoration (John 21:15-19). If Jesus didn’t give up on people, we can trust Him to work through the church too.
Challenge: Are you willing to see the church through Jesus’ eyes instead of your past experiences?
3. Healing Happens in Community
3. Healing Happens in Community
Text: Hebrews 10:24-25 – “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together...”
Isolation vs. Connection: Wounds thrive in isolation, but healing requires connection with the right people.
Find the Right Church: Not every church is healthy, but God can lead you to a community that reflects His heart.
Illustration: The early church in Acts 2:42-47 – flawed yet faithful, imperfect yet powerful.
Challenge: Are you willing to give community another chance, even if it’s uncomfortable?
