Sermon Title: Moses Walked with God
Sermon Title: Moses Walked with God
Theme: Walking with God in obedience, faith, and intimacy.
Introduction
Introduction
Opening statement: Moses is one of the most inspiring figures in the Bible, demonstrating what it truly means to walk with God. Key Scripture: Exodus 33:11 – "The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend." Illustrate with a brief story: Imagine a guide leading someone through a dense forest. Without listening to the guide's voice, the traveler would be lost. This is the essence of walking with God—trusting, listening, and following Him.
1. The Call of Moses
1. The Call of Moses
Scripture: Exodus 3:1-12 – The burning bush encounter.
Point: Moses' journey began with God's call. Walking with God starts when we respond to His voice.
Illustration: after saying no 2 times the 3rd time i said yes and eventually answered God’s call.
Jeremiah 1:5 – "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart."
Isaiah 6:8 – "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"
2. Obedience to God’s Commands
2. Obedience to God’s Commands
Scripture: Exodus 19:5-6 – "If you obey me fully and keep my covenant..."
Point: Moses walked with God by obeying His commands even when it was difficult. Obedience is key to intimacy with God.
Illustration: Talk about Noah’s obedience in building the ark (Genesis 6:22), tying it to Moses' challenges in confronting Pharaoh.
John 14:15 – "If you love me, keep my commands."
Deuteronomy 5:33 – "Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess."
3. Intimacy in God’s Presence
3. Intimacy in God’s Presence
Scripture: Exodus 33:14 – "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."
Point: Moses cherished God’s presence above all else. To walk with God, we must prioritize spending time with Him.
Illustration: Compare Moses' time on Mount Sinai to Jesus retreating to pray in solitude. Draw parallels with modern believers seeking God's presence in prayer and worship.
Psalm 16:11 – "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence."
James 4:8 – "Come near to God and he will come near to you."
4. Trusting God in the Impossible
4. Trusting God in the Impossible
Scripture: Exodus 14:13-16 – Parting of the Red Sea.
Point: Moses trusted God to do the impossible. Walking with God requires faith even when circumstances seem overwhelming.
Illustration: Share a modern testimony of someone trusting God in impossible circumstances (e.g., financial miracle, healing).
Proverbs 3:5-6 – "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
Isaiah 43:2 – "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you."
5. Patience in God’s Timing
5. Patience in God’s Timing
Scripture: Numbers 14:34 – Israel wanders for 40 years because of disobedience.
Point: Walking with God requires patience, as His timing is perfect. Moses had to wait and endure delays caused by others.
Illustration: A gardener planting seeds waits for the harvest. In the same way, Moses waited for God’s promises to unfold.
Habakkuk 2:3 – "For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."
Psalm 27:14 – "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
6. Interceding for Others
6. Interceding for Others
Scripture: Exodus 32:11-14 – Moses intercedes for the Israelites after the golden calf incident.
Point: A key aspect of walking with God is standing in the gap for others. Moses' relationship with God allowed him to plead for mercy.
Illustration: Compare to a firefighter running into a burning building to save lives, emphasizing the selflessness of intercession.
1 Timothy 2:1 – "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people."
James 5:16 – "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
7. Leaving a Legacy of Faith
7. Leaving a Legacy of Faith
Scripture: Deuteronomy 34:5-7 – Moses’ death and legacy.
Point: Walking with God impacts not just our lives but also future generations. Moses left a legacy of faith, obedience, and leadership.
Illustration: Talk about a historical figure (e.g., Billy Graham) whose walk with God inspired millions.
2 Timothy 4:7 – "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Psalm 78:4 – "We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord."
Conclusion
Conclusion
Recap the main points: God called Moses, he obeyed, trusted, waited, interceded, and left a legacy of faith. Challenge: Are we walking with God in the same way? Closing Scripture: Micah 6:8 – "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Illustration: End with a powerful story of transformation, showing how walking with God changes lives.
Hebrews 11:24-29 – Highlights Moses’ faith and obedience.
Isaiah 40:31 – "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Matthew 22:37 – "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."
