Unwrapping The Prince of Peace
Unwrapping The Prince of Peace
Isaiah 9:6–7 (NKJV)
v6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
v7 Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
Introduction
A wealthy man once gave his son a beautifully wrapped gift for his birthday. The box was large and ornate, tied with an elegant ribbon. Excited, the son tore off the wrapping paper, only to find another box inside. Laughing, he opened the second box, only to find yet another smaller one. This process continued through several layers until he reached a tiny final box. At this point, the son was slightly frustrated, wondering if the gift was worth all the effort.
When he opened the last box, he found a simple key with a note attached. The note read, “This is the key to a brand-new car waiting for you outside. I’ve given you more than you could imagine; it just took some unwrapping to see it.”
Isaiah declares that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has been given to us as God’s ultimate gift. But sometimes, we have to “unwrap” layers to fully understand and experience the peace He offers. It’s not just a surface-level peace to calm temporary storms but a deep, abiding peace that unlocks reconciliation with God, restores broken hearts, and guides us through life’s uncertainties.
Just like the boy had to unwrap layer by layer to discover the true gift, we must unwrap the truth of who Jesus is to experience the fullness of His peace. Are you willing to dig deeper to receive and embrace the Prince of Peace in your life?
The prophet Isaiah describes the indescribable. He points us to a Child who would change the world—a gift of peace, hope, and restoration wrapped in flesh and sent from heaven. Among the names listed, one stands out in our world of chaos and conflict: Prince of Peace.
But what does this title mean? How can Jesus bring peace to our troubled hearts, our broken relationships, and a restless world? Today, we will unwrap the true meaning of the Prince of Peace, uncovering His promise to calm our fears, heal our wounds, and reconcile us to God.
As we open this gift together, I invite you to let the peace of Christ rule in your heart, for this is a gift meant not just to be admired but to be experienced.
Let’s explore what this means for us today.Unwrapping the Prince of Peace
1. The Person of the Prince of Peace
v6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.”
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, His person bridges the gap between heaven and earth.
“For unto us a child is born” identifies Him as a man.
This phrase emphasizes the Messiah’s humanity. The child born highlights Jesus’ incarnation—His entry into the world as fully human.
• Fulfillment in Christ: This prophecy was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1:23 ““Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).” It reminds us of the humility of His birth and the miracle of God becoming man.
“Unto us a son is given”identifies Him as God.
• Gift from God: The term “given” signifies that this Son is a gift from God (John 3:16). It speaks to the divine nature of the Messiah as the eternal Son of God, pre-existing before His birth.
• Sacrificial Love: The Son is not only born but given—pointing to the ultimate sacrifice Jesus would make for humanity.
You can have peace with God, peace with yourself, and peace with others by putting your faith in the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy ladened and I will give you rest.” He is the Prince of Peace.
• Application: Recognize that true peace is found in a relationship with this Person, Jesus Christ.
• Illustration: Just as a mediator reconciles two opposing sides, Jesus reconciles us to God.

2. The Power of the Prince of Peace
* “The Government shall be upon His shoulder” speaks of His strength.
It is a reference to the Millennial Reign when Christ will rule the world. The King of kings will govern the nations. The nations will truly be united with the Son of God ruling the world with a rod of iron. His reign was rejected at His first coming, but not at His second coming when He arrives as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
History is indexed with men who have tried to rule the world but have faded away into eternity on the pages of time like printed words bleached out by the rays of the sun. Men like Nebuchadnezzar, Alexander the Great, the Caesars of Rome, Napoleon, and Adolph Hitler and Trump..
There is One who will come again to take His rightful place as King of Kings.
Ps 24:8“Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!”
• Scripture: “
• Explanation: The Prince of Peace holds the power to rule with justice and righteousness, bringing peace to all who come under His authority.
• Application: Surrender your life to His rule and experience His transformative power.
• Illustration: A king’s power ensures stability in his kingdom; Christ’s power secures peace in our hearts.

3. The Plan of the Prince of Peace
“His name shall be called… Prince of Peace.”
In the time when the prophet Isaiah wrote this prophecy, everything round him was no peace.
The word “peace” refers to “a state of happiness, well being and prosperity.” The word “prince” speaks of “a captain, a steward and a keeper.” He is the Creator and the Sustainer of our peace
Men cry for peace in the world today. For satan is the disturber and constant troubler of hearts. It is the source of disorder and distress.
Our Lord can calm the fears of mankind from A to Z, from acrophobia (fear of heights) to zoophobia (fear of animals). Fear robs us of sleep. Americans are champions of insomnia consuming over three billion sleeping pills each year. Jesus said, “Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy ladened and I will give you rest.” He is the Prince of Peace.
In Christ we have …
* Peace with God. We are reconciled to the Lord. Our sin debt is paid.
* Romans 5:1—Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
* Peace with Others. He helps to make us patient, forgiving, longsuffering, gentle, kind, and generous.
* Peace with Ourselves. Our sins are forgiven, our guilt is gone, we have a home in Heaven because we have been saved! Is the Prince of peace reigning in your life? I hope so.
• Explanation: Jesus’ plan is to establish peace—peace with God through the cross, peace within through the Holy Spirit, and peace with others through love and forgiveness.
• Application: Follow His plan by living a life of faith, forgiveness, and reconciliation.
• Illustration: A carefully designed blueprint ensures a strong foundation, just as Christ’s plan builds a peaceful life.

4. The Permanence of the Prince of Peace
• Scripture: “Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end.”
He will do six things:
1) He will sit upon the throne of David;
2) He will set the kingdom of David in order;
3) He will establish justice in this kingdom forever;
4) He will bear the government of the world upon His shoulder;
5) He will keep on extending His government (rule) until it covers all men (“of the increase of His government there shall be no end.”) All who refuse to come under His rule will be destroyed; and
6) He will keep on bestowing His peace until it has been bestowed upon all men (“of the increase of His peace there shall be no end”).
• Explanation: The peace Jesus offers is eternal and unshakable, outlasting any earthly turmoil.
• Application: Rest in the assurance that His peace is not fleeting but everlasting.
• Illustration: Like an unending stream, the peace of Christ flows eternally to all who trust in Him.
Conclusion:
And in closing let me say
The peace that comes from God above
is beyond human understanding or comprehension.
It literally baffles our mind and intelligence simply because of how it prevail…even in the midst of hardship. suffering, adversity and even death itself.
This peace has a calming and comforting effect on those who put their trust and confidence in prince of peace. no matter what their circumstances may be.
it is a peace that difficulties cannot disturb, that trials cannot trouble. that obstacles cannot overcome. and that fear cannot frustrate.
it is a peace that can relax the nerves, that can dissolve the doubts, that can calm the emotions, and which can provide a song in the darkest of nights
It is a peace that can strengthen one’s faith, that can dry one’s tears, that can lighten one’s load, and that can abundantly bless one’s heart.
it enables one to survive conflict, settle differences, conquer fear and doubt, and withstand the storms of life.
This peace helps one to face the unfaceable…to bear the unbearable, to endure the unendurable, and to accept the unacceptable.
This peace will bring comfort to you soul in times of sorrow and grief. It will also add value to your friendships, strength to your testimony...as well as impart joy to your life .
This peace has a tranquility… that rose gardens cannot supply.....that glorious sunsets cannot furnish, ...that bubbling brooks cannot give, or that soothing music cannot provide.
it cannot be enjoyed by the wicked, or the deceitful. or the immoral, or the vulgar, or the godless… but only by those who know the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, as their Lord and Savior, who have their sins under the blood, who walk and live in the Spirit. and who acknowledge their total and complete dependence on God.
This peace that comes down from heaven bears no resemblance to that which is formulated in Washington D.C. The major difference lays with ‘who and how’ it originates.
Man’s attempt at creating peace is weak and flimsy at it’s best. because it all too often involves those who are sinful, or who are rebellious,
To be without this peace nerves become tense, hearts become troubled, burdens become overwhelming, and nights become absolutely miserable.
To be without this peace is to invite emotional distress, frustrating relationships, nervous breakdowns, sleepless nights, and tormented minds.
This present world will never know this peace…because it cannot receive it by mutual agreemnts,
But it is available to ALL who call upon the blessed Name of JESUS.. and just as soon as you do, you can have it…..!
