Background

Realized I hadn’t explained Yahweh: When you hear me say Yahweh, I’m not trying to sound smart or something. If you’re reading along in your Bible you will see LORD (all caps). That’s how the King James Version (KJV) translators primarily rendered the Tetragrammaton (YHWH), the sacred four-letter name of God in Hebrew, as "LORD" (in all capital letters).
It’s a conviction I started having about the Trinity. When I would read the Bible, I’m reading Lord all the time and I see a difference in the text but more than that i realize sometimes it’s referring the God the Father and sometimes referring to Jesus, God the Son.
Me saying Yahweh instead of just LORD is how I’m trying to give honor to each of the members of the Godhead
What is “dual fulfillment”?
Dual fulfillment of a Bible prophecy is the circumstance in which the prophecy has both a short-term and long-term fulfillment. A prophecy is made, and the first fulfillment comes to pass relatively soon thereafter. Later, there is a second fulfillment to the prophecy, and that second fulfillment is usually fuller and more literal. So, there is a “near” fulfillment and a “far” fulfillment. A prophecy having a dual fulfillment helps to unify Scripture and emphasizes God’s masterful control of events.

Isaiah 6

In Isaiah 6 Isaiah gets his commendation from Yahweh:
Isaiah 6:1 “1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”
Isaiah 6:5 “5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”
Isaiah 6:8–10 “8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me. 9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. 10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
When Isaiah heard the message he was to take from God to the people, his response?: Isaiah 6:11–12 “11 Then said I, Lord, how long? And he answered, Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate, 12 And the LORD have removed men far away, and there be a great forsaking in the midst of the land.”
But God!: Isaiah 6:13 “13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.”

Isaiah 7

Ahaz is the king of Judah. Rezin of Aram and Pekah of Israel try to conquer Jerusalem but fail. This scares Ahaz to death. Isaiah 7:2 “2 And it was told the house of David, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.”
Yahweh told Isaiah to go tell Ahaz: Isaiah 7:4 “4 And say unto him, Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be fainthearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.”
Isaiah 7:7 “7 Thus saith the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.”
But Yahweh also warns Ahaz: Isaiah 7:9 “9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.”

Our 1st passage: Isaiah 7:10-16

Isaiah 7:10–12 “10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. 12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.”
Yahweh tells Ahaz through Israel to ask for a sign and Ahaz tells him no. That could look like Ahaz was being all holy and spiritual but it’s not the case
Isaiah 7:13 “13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?”
Ahaz wasn’t saying he trusted God don’t worry about it
he was saying he didn’t want or didn’t need one
Isaiah 7:14–15 “14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. 15 Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.”

Near fulfillment

Isaiah 7:16–17 “16 For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings. 17 The LORD shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come, from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah; even the king of Assyria.”
Judgement is coming to Judah and Israel for disobeying the covenant with God and Ahaz for unbelief
The rest of Chapter 7 spells out those trials and judgement
Chapter 8 Israel prophesies the coming Assyrian invasion
Isaiah 8:8–10 “8 And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel. 9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. 10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.”
I didn’t forget to talk about Immanuel in Isaiah 7:14. in the immediate prophecy Yaweh is telling them…judgement’s coming. And I, Yahweh, am bringing it. But...
Isaiah 8:11–12 “11 For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, 12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.”
Isaiah, don’t be discouraged
Isaiah 8:13–14 “13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.”
Instead fear me and follow me and I will be your safety and security in my judgement of the nation
Isaiah’s response: Isaiah 8:18 “18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.”
Chapter 9 Yahweh tells Israel hold on...
Isaiah 9:2–5 “2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. 3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. 5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.”

Future fulfillment

Isaiah 9:6–7 “6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”
Yahweh tells Isreal a better day is coming, a day when I will raise up one that will rule in perfection.
Chapter 10 Yahweh tells the prophet the He’s also going to hold Assyria accountable for their actions even as the tool Yahweh used to judge the nation of Israel so remember...Immanuel
Isaiah 10:20–22 “20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. 21 The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. 22 For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.”
Chapter 11
Isaiah 11:1–2 “1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;”
The proud tree of Assyria is replaced with a branch from the stump of Jesse
God has always been and will always be in the business of confounding the proud with the humble. Remember 1 Corinthians 1:27 “27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

Conclusion

Immanuel - God with us. God was with Israel and has come to be us now
Matthew 1:18–23 “18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Root of Jesse:
Romans 15:8–13 “8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers: 9 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. 10 And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. 11 And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. 12 And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. 13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Revelation 22:12–16 “12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”
