Discipleship

V 1 stumbling blocks
V 2 do not cause someone to stumble
V 3 rebuke your brother of sin
V 4 infinitely forgive someone
V 5 Increase our faith
V 6 your faith can do the impossible
when we start exercising our faith we may get too full of ourselves
and the pendulum swing will be at it’s highest
we forget where we came from
we forget who we are
we are slaves
we have a debt that we cannot possibly pay
so Jesus is telling us
our christian walk needs a balance
of the high mountain of a life of faith and the mundane life of being faithful
so firstly we have to realize who we are

An Indentured Servant

Who is God?
All Mighty, all knowing, ever present, outside of our 3 dimensional world
He is the creator, sustainer, ruler of the universe
He is absolutely Just
He is absolutely Holy
Absolutely sinless
we were created from the dust of the ground
water and dust make mud
our bodies ore nothing more than what you sweep under the rug
our bodies have been lovingly made by our creator
every birth is a gift from Yahweh
Ruth 4:13 LSB
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And Yahweh granted her conception, and she gave birth to a son.
Our existence we owe to God
every body who is alive is in debt to God for their lives
Our salvation
We have defied the most Holy with our sin
with our sin we have brought the wages of sin upon ourselves
with the sin nature that recieved from Adam we have a curse upon us
but God in His sovereignty
Confessing the Faith: The 1689 Baptist Confession for the 21st Century (III. God’s Decree)
3:3 By God’s decree, and for the demonstration of His glory, some human beings and angels are predestined (or foreordained) to eternal life through Jesus Christ, to the praise of His glorious grace. Others are left to live in their sin, leading to their just condemnation, to the praise of His glorious justice.
we are saved from the wrath of God against us and our sin
Jesus came as a baby to die a sinless death for our redemption
The Holy Spirit regenerated us to change our disposition to want salvation
We have done nothing but say yes to salvation
and turn from our pride and our way to God
so, our life is a gift from God
our eternal life is a gift from God
Our debt to the Almighty could never be paid
for all of eternity we will be in debt to mercy and grace
so, let’s read our scripture for today
Luke 17 7-10.

Faithful

V 7-9
it was unthinkable for a landowner to be grateful for a duty that was performed
to thank for a good job
to give a bonus to him
to give him a meal after a long day out in the field
in fact
V 10 the servant is expected to come in change his clothes wash up and minister to the owner
cook and serve his meal
and then and only then cook and eat his own meal
wash the dishes clean the litter box and go to bed to do the same tomorrow
there is nothing we can do that is worthy of praise
our ministry, our good works, what we do for the master is our duty
it is the least we can do in the light of what He has done for us
it is what is expected

King Practices Obedience

It is said of Henry of Bavaria that at one time, becoming weary of court life, he determined to enter a monastery. When he presented himself to Prior Richard, the faithful monk gave him the strict rules of the order. The king listened eagerly and enthusiastically expressed pleasure at the prospect of such complete consecration.

Then the prior insisted that obedience, implicit and expressed was the first requisite of sainthood. The monarch promised to follow his will in every detail. “Then go back to your throne and do your duty in the station God assigned you,” was the prior’s word to him. The king took up his scepter again, and from then until he died, his people said of him, “King Henry has learned to govern by learning to obey.”

—The Treasury

Jesus has given us good works to accomplish. whether it is being a king, a house wife, teacher, or Pastor, we need to be faithful to our task.
it is God that assigns our duties. Gives us our lot in life
we need to be faithful in our duties and work as if we are working for God
and to temper that with our mountain top of faith
have a balance of moving mulberry trees by faith and being a servant doing our duties
It is all a part of being a disciple
take an account of your life
are you doing your God given duties to the best of your abilities?
if not why not?
do you need to repent
to be like the king and realize this duty that I do is God given
did you need a reminder of who you are and who God is?
did you need a reminder of what Jesus has done for you?
repent and be the servant God has called you to be
