A 30 day journey to understanding the names and character of God.
Greetings this morning; in the name of the Lord, the name above every name scripture declares is the name of Jesus, our Savior, and Lord. Today, we start 30 days of trying to understand the names and attributes of our God.
Our goal is 5 minutes to understand a savior's characteristics and pray for our understanding to be enlightened. We want to apply this principle to our understanding of Christ, who is alive in our lives!
Section 1: Holy One
1. I AM
When Moses encountered God in the burning bush, the Lord instructed him to tell Pharaoh that “I AM” had sent him. This is the name of the ultimate independent, self-complete being. Jesus also used many “I AM” statements to reveal himself as God, like “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35 , NIV).
Scripture:
Exodus 3:13-15 13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
The seven “I am” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John are:
• I am the bread of life: (John 6:35)
• I am the light of the world: (John 8:12)
• I am the door of the sheep: (John 10:7)
• I am the good shepherd: (John 10:11, 14)
• I am the resurrection and the life: (John 11:25)
• I am the way, the truth, and the life: (John 14:6)
• I am the true vine: (John 15:1)
