Exodus 12:35-36.
Exodus 12:35–36 NKJV
35 Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. 36 And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

Jeremiah 29:5-6.
Jeremiah 29:5–6 NKJV
5 Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. 6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters—that you may be increased there, and not diminished.

When the Lord was dealing with Israels captivity this is what he told them:

1. Build houses/ plant gardens.

We live in a cash society. If we where to write this verse today it would say, “buy houses”. notice that build is a verb, it is an action that you take.
Several years I go the Church supported a orphanage in Cancun Mexico. [give a brief explanation.] In Cancun people build houses starting with sticks. They tie them together to make outside walls. Then the soak corrugated card board in oil and make roofs out of them. after they save enough money, they poor foundations, they put cinder block up and take the poles down. Around this time the Gov. puts in electricity, Then the Government starts negotiating with the families for the land they already have built on. My point is the process takes time.
Most of us wont build houses with our hands but we will build the soft skills needed to make ourselves marketable.
Showing up on time and being ready to work when you are on the clock.
working to the best of your ability. In addition ask your supervisor how to improve. seek the same for career advancement.
all of this takes time.

2. Build family.

of course in this passage The Lord is talking to the nation.
I know that building family is more than going through the motions.
School.
Extra curricular activities.
it is spending time with your family.
its engaging in recreation.
it is setting available time.

Who we are as a people outside of Church is the kingdom.

3. All of the above goes into who we are as a Church.

Notice that the fill in the blank for the point above is we. We are the church, all of us. Some people feel as only those who serve are the Church but that us untrue. Some of us serve as the Lord and the body in leadership roles but that service is not for our own fame but God’s glory.
