God's extravagant love 12/29/24
God's extravagant love
Wow! another year has come and gone. It’s truly amazing how quick time is going by. This month we did a series off of the Christmas song called Holy Night. We looked at different scripture’s that told the amazing Christmas story. Today I want to wrap this year up talking about God’s extravagant love for us.
We’ve looked at John 3:16-18 in a few different translation’s. Let’s look at another.
John 3:16–18 (The Living Bible, Paraphrased)
16 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 God did not send his Son into the world to condemn it, but to save it.
18 “There is no eternal doom awaiting those who trust him to save them. But those who don’t trust him have already been tried and condemned for not believing in the only Son of God.
God’s love for us is beyond human comprehension.
You'll never understand how much God loves you until you know how much he loves the Son.
John 3:35 (NKJV) "The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.”
At Jesus baptism, the Father was right there.
Matthew 3:17 (NKJV) "And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'"
But now God is showing His extravagant love for us.
Romans 5:6–11 (NLT) 6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.
7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.
10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
To understand how much God loves us, we need to understand the value of the one He gave us.
So my question is,
Just how valuable is Jesus?
You understand the worth of a person or thing by what value you put on it. Example, diamond ring in a engagement.
Many people can paint a beautiful picture, but the original Mona Lisa is one of a kind, or the original Starry night is one of a kind.
What are the value’s pf these painting, I looked it up and here is what it said:
The value of the original Mona Lisa and The Starry Night cannot be accurately estimated because they are considered priceless treasures of human history and are not available for sale. Here’s why:
The Mona Lisa
Artist: Leonardo da Vinci
Location: Louvre Museum, Paris, France
Insured Value: In 1962, it was insured for $100 million. Adjusted for inflation, that would exceed $1 billion today.
Cultural Significance: As arguably the most famous painting in the world, it embodies Renaissance art, da Vinci's genius, and centuries of cultural history.
Priceless Nature: It is protected as a national treasure of France, and its removal or sale is unimaginable.
The Starry Night
Artist: Vincent van Gogh
Location: Museum of Modern Art New York City.
Estimated Value: Experts estimate it could fetch over $100 million, possibly approaching $1 billion, if ever auctioned, though it is not for sale.
Cultural Significance: Van Gogh's masterpiece represents the height of Post-Impressionist art and holds immense emotional and artistic resonance worldwide.
Yet, there are people that can paint them today, yet it would not have the value of the original.
Are you seeing were I’m going. What is the value of God’s only Son. And this is what God gave for us, how valuable does that make us.
John 3:16 (TPT) 16 For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life.
Think of the Value of Jesus
1. He Is the Source of Eternal Life
I like how Peter said it when Jesus said, do you want to leave also?
John 6:68-69 (NKJV): "But Simon Peter answered Him, 'Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'"
Peter acknowledges that there is no one and nothing else that can provide what Jesus offers.
2. His Name Is Above Every Name
Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV) "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Jesus is of ultimate worth and authority, deserving of universal worship.
3. He Is the Image of God and Creator of All
Colossians 1:15-17 (NKJV): "He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist."
Jesus is the central figure in all creation and history, demonstrating His immeasurable value.
4. His Sacrifice Demonstrates His Worth.
1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV) "Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
The cost of our redemption—the blood of Jesus—shows His priceless worth.
5. Paul brings out the value of Jesus.
Philippians 3:7–8 (NKJV) 7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ
Philippians 3:7–8 (AMP) 7 But whatever former things I had that might have been gains to me, I have come to consider as [one combined] loss for Christ’s sake.
8Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One),
Paul declares that knowing Jesus is more valuable than anything this world offers.
6. Jesus is the only Foundation
1 Corinthians 3:11 (NKJV) "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
Jesus is the unshakable foundation upon which all true life and hope are built.
7. His Love Is Incomparable
Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV): "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
This extravagant love of Jesus show’s us how much He loves us.
