Eddie Wayne Barrett, 56 of Amherst, Texas, passed away Thursday December 12, 2024. He was born on June 25, 1968, in Littlefield, Texas.
Eddie graduated from Amherst High School in 1986. Right after graduation he enlisted and served in the United States Marines. He then graduated from OSU in 1997. Eddie presently worked for C-Innovations on an offshore oil rig based out of Louisiana. He was a craftsman, a talented woodworker and was very handy. He remained a kid at heart who was loud, boisterous, outgoing and fun loving. He loved his motorcycles, golfing, dancing and drinking wine. He liked attending Pastor Todd’s sermons at TWC in Lubbock with his girlfriend Marlene. He hosted his infamous annual crawfish boil for over 20 years and enjoyed entertaining and feeding everyone. He had a deep love for his family and will always be remembered for his kind heart.
Eddie is survived by his mom, Vivian Long of Amherst, Texas; a son, Joshua Randall Barrett of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Cliff Barrett of Amherst, Texas, and Gerald Merrifield of Rockport, Texas; Tim Gonzales, who was raised like a brother; his “dolphin lady” Marlene Richardson, of Wolfforth, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. message Dear friends and family,
We gather today with heavy hearts to celebrate the life of Eddie. We come together in grief, in shock, and with many unanswered questions.
As we navigate the complex emotions that come with losing a loved one in these circumstances, I want to acknowledge the pain and the struggle that we experience.
But even in the midst of such darkness, we can find hope. We can find JOY in the memories we shared with him,in the laughter, the adventures, and the quiet moments.
We also acknowledge that Eddies journey was not easy. We recognize that he faced challenges and struggles that many of us cannot imagine.
As we say goodbye to Eddie, we remember the good times. We remember his smile, his laugh, and his generous spirit. We remember the ways in which he touched your lives, and the ways in which he made each of you better people.
And as we move forward, we commit to supporting one another. We commit to being present for each other, to listening to each other's stories, and to offering a helping hand when needed.
Our Greatest comfort is find in the words of the Bible:
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18)
May we find comfort in these words, And may we find strength in the love and support of this community.
After visiting with the family and his friends I could see the great Heart that had and how he loved life he loved his family.
Share a few story’s
‌‌Today we come together in sadness and in grief, because you already miss him like crazy!!
‌However; in the middle of all the grief and sadness lies a peace and Joy!!!!
‌Why is that????
‌There is one greater than us!!!
‌One that took away the sting of death by his resurrection. You see in
John 14:1-6
Jesus states
‌“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling-places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Just like Thomas we might be asking How can we know the way!!!!
You might be saying today how can I handle any more grief or pain in this life.
The answers are found in the words of Jesus, when he said I am the Way, and the truth and the life.
You see even in pain, grief and sorrow we have a great Joy that runs deep!!!
We know based on the words of our Savior that those who have placed their trust in Jesus will have a glorious reunion.
Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life.
Those who believe in me, even though they die, yet they shall live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.
I am the Alpha the Omega, the beginning and the end the first and the last.
I died and behold I am alive for evermore, and hold the keys of hell and death because I live, you shall love also.
As we come here gathered today in God’s presence as family and friends to remember the life of Eddie
We come together in grief, acknowledging our human loss.
May God grant us grace, that in pain we may find comfort, in sorrow hope, in death resurrection.
*Friends and family there is comfort in the memories of how Eddie touched your lives and made it different
*There is comfort in remembering that death is not the end if you have a relationship with Christ.
*There is comfort in knowing that you can see those who have a relationship with Christ again.
* Our greatest comfort is found in Christ.
Jesus said, “come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” Jesus has promised through the writer of Hebrews, “I will never leave you…nor forsake you.”
And it is through a relationship with Christ that we are able to say as the Psalmist, “though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
Jesus promises eternal life to “ those who believe in him and have a relationship with him.”
Today, beyond our natural sorrow, there is a supernatural joy that comes from knowing:
‌…the reality of Jesus
…the reality of God’s love
…the reality of forgiveness
…the reality of the new birth
…the reality of Heaven
…the reality of eternity
*This is our hope
*This is our confidence
It is because of the hope we have in Christ that gives us Hope when we find ourselves in such sorrow and pain.
1 Corinthians 2:1
tells us that no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.
He has a place prepared where there is no pain, no tears, no fear, no depression, Those same hands that died for us will wipe every tear from our eyes.
When we die we are just begging the chapter of our true lives, Our life here on Earth is Just the cover of our lives.
You know, we have hope today. We have hope because
John 3:16 says,
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
I also love
Luke 12:32
. It says, "'Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.'"
Isn’t that encouraging . . .
God is our Shepherd, Father & King.
And Speaking of a Shepherd. The 23rd Psalm says:
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul. He guides me along the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness & mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
I want to take the rest of the time we have left by sharing how he touched his family’s life, at this time we have a few of his family that would like to share a few words before I pray.
I want to pray over the family and then you will be dismissed
