Sermon Title: Light of the World: Called to Shine Like Christ Theme: Excellent Chosen People Bible Passages: Luke 2:29–32, Isaiah 49:6–8 Duration: 30 minutes
Introduction: Preparing to Shine in the New Year (5 minutes)
Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ! As we stand at the threshold of a new year, we have the opportunity to reflect on God’s calling for us and align our lives with His purpose. Today, we focus on the theme “Light of the World: Called to Shine Like Christ.” This calling isn't just for a season but for every moment of our lives.
. Understanding the Scriptures
Isaiah 49:6–8
In this passage, God speaks to His Servant, declaring that it is too small a task to restore only the tribes of Jacob; instead, He appoints the Servant as a light to the Gentiles, bringing salvation to the ends of the earth. This prophecy, delivered during Israel's exile—a period of deep despair and identity crisis—extends hope beyond Israel to all nations, emphasizing God's inclusive plan of redemption.
Luke 2:29–32
Here, Simeon, a devout man led by the Holy Spirit, encounters the infant Jesus in the temple. Holding Jesus, he praises God, proclaiming that he has seen God's salvation—a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for Israel. Simeon's declaration acknowledges Jesus as the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy, the embodiment of God's salvation for all humanity.
Point 1: Seeing Salvation’s Source (Luke 2:29–30) (7 minutes)
In Luke 2:29–30, Simeon holds baby Jesus in his arms and declares, “Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You may now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation.”
Simeon’s words reflect a profound moment of realization. He sees Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah, and proclaims Him as the fulfillment of God's promises. Through Jesus, God’s salvation becomes tangible—a beacon of hope not just for Israel but for all humanity.
Application for Us Today:
Do we see Jesus as the source of salvation in our own lives? Recognizing Jesus as the light transforms how we view our purpose and priorities. Entering the new year, let us seek to perceive life’s challenges and blessings through the lens of His faithfulness. Reflect: How have you experienced God’s salvation this year? How can you testify to His faithfulness in the year ahead?
Point 2: Shedding Light on Nations (Luke 2:31–32) (7 minutes)
Simeon continues, saying, “...a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
This prophecy affirms God’s inclusive plan. Jesus didn’t come just for Israel but for all nations. He breaks down cultural and spiritual barriers, revealing God’s salvation to everyone.
Call to Action:
As bearers of His light, we are called to reflect this inclusive Gospel. This involves stepping out of our comfort zones to share the Good News with those who are different from us. Consider how you can be a light in your workplace, school, or neighborhood. Sharing Christ isn’t always through grand gestures—it could be as simple as extending kindness, listening to someone in need, or offering to pray for a friend.
Reflection Question: Who in your life needs to see Christ's light through you in 2025?
Point 3: Serving All Nations (Isaiah 49:6) (7 minutes)
Isaiah 49:6 declares, “It is too small a thing for you to be My servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
God’s vision for His Servant is expansive. His mission isn’t limited to restoring Israel—it extends to the entire world. This global perspective reminds us of the vastness of God’s love and the universality of His Gospel.
Application for Believers:
As Christ’s followers, we are called to serve beyond boundaries—cultural, national, or otherwise. What does this mean practically? It could involve supporting missions, volunteering in community outreach, or simply being present for someone in need. Reflect on ways you can be an instrument of God's justice and salvation in 2025.
Point 4: Steadfast in His Calling (Isaiah 49:7–8) (6 minutes)
Isaiah 49:7–8 reminds us of the challenges faced by God’s Servant: “This is what the Lord says—the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel—to Him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the Servant of rulers: ‘Kings will see You and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen You.’”
Despite rejection and opposition, the Servant remains steadfast in His mission. His perseverance leads to ultimate victory and honor.
Encouragement for Us:
Like Christ, we may face challenges as we strive to shine His light. Rejection, misunderstandings, or even spiritual battles may arise. Yet, God’s faithfulness sustains us. As we press forward in obedience, we reflect Christ’s perseverance and glorify His name. Enter 2025 with a heart determined to stay steadfast in your calling, trusting that God’s promises never fail.
Conclusion: Shining into the New Year (5 minutes)
As we close this year and prepare for the next, let us remember that we are chosen to be Christ’s light in this world. Reflect on these truths:
See the Source of Salvation – Jesus is our light and life. Recognize His role in your journey. Shed His Light on Others – Carry His Gospel to those around you. Serve Beyond Boundaries – Be an active participant in God’s mission for all nations. Stay Steadfast in Challenges – Trust in God’s faithfulness as you persevere in your calling.
Big Idea: We are commissioned to be the light of Christ in a dark world, actively transforming lives through love and action, as we embody His message of hope and salvation.
As we step into 2025, let’s commit to shining His light with renewed passion, knowing that God’s presence goes before us. Let us pray for His guidance and strength to be faithful in this mission.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus as the light of the world. Help us to embrace our calling to reflect His light in our words, actions, and hearts. As we enter a new year, fill us with Your Spirit, guide us in Your truth, and empower us to shine brightly in the darkness. May our lives glorify You and draw others to Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Konteks: Pemahaman Firman Tuhan

Poin 1: Melihat Sumber Keselamatan (7 menit)

Poin 3: Melayani Semua Bangsa (7 menit)

Namun, kesetiaan Allah menopang kita.

Amin.
