The veil of Moses is equated to the veil of the fading glory of the law. Paul shares with the Corinthians that a veil remains over the faces of the children of Israel because they were relying on the law but the law of grace in now in effect which is given by the Spirit that supersedes the law. Now this concept had proven much more difficult to comprehend than I am sure Paul expected.
Even today many would rather to rely on the law than grace.
Accepting the grace of God and understanding it comes by faith.
It was in Exodus 34:29-34 describes how the glory of God shone on Moses’ face after receiving the law. His face shone so radiantly that the children of Israel could not look upon it. He wore a veil. The veil ended up serving two purposes. Initially because his face shone with the glory of God but also to hide the fading of the glory.
Paul’s argument is if the law which glory would eventually fade was so great how much more will be the glory of the ministry of Spirit be that shall not have an end.
The case is made that this ministry of the Spirit which we now have because of Jesus Christ .
We have something far better in Jesus
Look at verse 7 7 Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, 8 will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? 9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. 10 Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. (2 Co 3:7–10).
The problem with the law was the law itself. On top of the 10 commandments there were over 600 laws that were given for the children of Israel to keep. These law were strict and strenuous to keep. The law lead to death. Even today when we break one law its the same as breaking all if the laws. We know that all have sin and fell short of the glory of God. Yes each of us are sinful and can not keep the law. This why Jesus came. He came to give us the ministry of the Spirit which I like to refer to as the ministry of grace. Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I m found blind but now i see.
Yes our issues was keeping the law. I don’t care how how you try you will mess up and if you break the least of the laws its the same as breaking them all. This argument was not only made to the Corinthians but to the Galatians, and to the early church. It was important for the early church to not rely on the law but understand that Christ was the fulfilment the law. 8 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. (Ro 8:1–3). The law was weak because it depended on man to keep it.
Secondly with this Ministry of the Spirit we have boldness
12 Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, 13 not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.
(2 Co 3:12–13). The Message Bible says it this way, With that kind of hope to excite us, nothing holds us back. Unlike Moses, we have nothing to hide. Everything is out in the open with us. He wore a veil so the children of Israel wouldn’t notice that the glory was fading away—and they didn’t notice. (2 Co 3:12–14). Paul said to the Ephesians 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. (Eph 6:19–20).
In christ we should a certain boldness to speak about him. We should declare with boldness that we are children of the most high. We are complete in him. And unlike Moses our glory should not be fading but increasing. As we move forward we are be perfected. We are declaring we are being transformed to look like him, 49 Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. (1 Co 15:49).
Walk in Christ awhile and folks will marvel of your transformation. He has turned brawlers into peacemakers. He has made the unrighteous the righteous! The unjust the ministers of justice. We can boldly say I know I been changed. We can share testimonies of how God did not give up on us.
I had the pleasure to watch the movie the Forge this week. Its about the transformation of a young man through the discipleship of a strong mentor. The person at the beginning of the movie was distant memory of the person at the end of the movie. When you are in relationship with God it changes you.!
Which leads me to my final point. We can take off our veils.
The veils today mark a separation in our relationship with God. As I said our glory should not be fading so that we have something to hide. 16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit (2 Co 3:16–18).
When we turn to the Lord the veil is removed! We have freedom in Christ to be our authentic self. One of my concerns is that the Church causes people to veil. What ever your struggle was or is I told you that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus! When we are in Christ and experience his transformative power we are moving from one degree of glory to another.
Has anyone ever said I wish I can go back and talk to my young self and say God has purpose for your life. Commit early and stay steadfast and watch what God will do! He is moving you from glory to glory. moving you to greater !!!
It takes faith to recognize that God is doing something mighty in your life. He is surely making moves on your behalf.
We are going into a new year in 3 days . If 2024 was not your year then expect something better in 2025. You moving from Glory to Glory but you have to be willing to get closer to God. The veils of disobedience, you must remove the veil of doubt, the veils of self righteousness, the veils of judgement. Thes veils keep us away from God. When we behold his glory we experience true freedom. also know as liberty. Not liberty to sin but liberty to live gloriously!
