Discipleship
Discipleship
Luke 17 has taught us about being a disciple
there will be stumbling blocks
our need to rebuke and forgive
our need to walk by faith
our need to be faithful
to realize that we are servants with a duty
so Luke is going to tell us another account to teach about discipleship
this account has been used as multiple sermon subjects
about Jesus healing the 10 lepers
read Luke 11 11-19
what we want to concentrate on is V 15-16
because we are looking at what does a disciple of Jesus do
we worship and are thankful
Worship
Worship
what is involved in worship?
what is involved ?
where can we worship?
this foreigner this dog
was the only one to come back
he cried with a loud voice his praise to God for his healing
he came an bowed down at Jesus feet
lets see what other scriptures tell us about worship
Oh come, let us sing for joy to Yahweh, Let us make a loud shout to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us make a loud shout to Him with songs of praise.
For Yahweh is a great God And a great King above all gods,
In whose hand are the depths of the earth, The peaks of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for it was He who made it, And His hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before Yahweh our Maker.
For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you hear His voice,
Worship is assigning to God His worth and majesty
Therefore I exhort you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—living, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
the act of giving is worship
here we are to give our whole selves
every time Sampath and his people go to a village to evangelize he is giving his body to God
he is running the risk of being beat up, imprisoned, fined, or all 3
but when they recover they are doing it again
this is a great example of their worship
their giving of their bodies to God
Now brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia,
that in a great testing by affliction their abundance of joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the richness of their generosity.
For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord,
begging us with much urging for the grace of sharing in the ministry to the saints,
and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.
they gave generously because they gave themselves first to God
then they borrowed money to give to the needy in the church
And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people for he was above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up.
Then Ezra blessed Yahweh the great God. And all the people answered, “Amen, Amen!” while lifting up their hands; then they bowed low and worshiped Yahweh with their faces to the ground.
they worshipped by reading God’s word
they worshipped by bowing with their faces to the ground
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess His name.
they worshipped by confessing their Lord and Savior Jesus
to be a disciple we need to worship with our whole body
our mind
our giving of praise
singing to the Lord about His greatness
to read his word
but as the cured leper did
he came to Jesus to thank Him
and as we previously read in
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us make a loud shout to Him with songs of praise.
a disciple comes to God with
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving
“And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Yahweh, you shall sacrifice it so that you may be accepted.
a free will offering of thanksgiving was given by the Israelites
they come and worship by giving a thanksgiving offering
when was the last time we said
I am so thankful to God for what He has done that I want to give—-
Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
we should come through these doors with thanksgiving on our lips
we worship when we thank Him in our praise and prayer
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
instead of worrying be thankful
begin your prayers with thanksgiving
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving;
Luke is teaching what a good Disciple is
to know there will be stumbling blocks in our path that we need to watch out for
there is a need to confront / rebuke a brother in sin
to be able to forgive someone an infinite amount of times
that we need to use our faith in Jesus to do the impossible
to forgive someone infinitely
a disciple is someone who knows they are an indentured servant
who has a God given duty
and today we see that a disciple gives his whole life an body and mind in worship with thanksgiving to Yahweh
proclaiming the name of Jesus
are you the disciple that Jesus has called us to be?
Do you need to repent and turn from your sin?
