Wonders in Worry

Matthew 6:25–34 NLT
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. 34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Isn’t life more then food and drink? Is a powerful thought because mans human nature is to always be concerned about pleasurable matters. Starting with just basic needs to be able to eat (Satisfy our appetite) and drink (Satisfy our fundamental thirst)
Jesus is creating a reminder of what we need to be aware of everyday. Our lives are in God’s hands for the sole purpose of Him building up our faith in Him. Not in our own abilities or assignments, but complete trust of God’s doings.
So when we read Matthew 6:25
Matthew 6:25 NLT
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
In other words take your minds off of these futile things, just because your bank account isn’t overflowing with money doesn’t mean you will not have. God will make away for you out of His own ways. His own provisions, He is the creator of all the things we value which means He owns them and disperses them to his Children in their needs.
Psalm 50:10-11 (NLT)
Psalm 50:10–11 NLT
10 For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know every bird on the mountains, and all the animals of the field are mine.
This passage is a clear indication that all belongs to God. Everything in the universe and we are just stewards of it all.
So then we have every right to ask with confidence for the father to provide for our needs.
Let me ask you a question when you pray are you asking God to provide for your needs? or are you praying with demands for things that may not be His will for you?
I’m not saying you are not allowed to ask God for certain desires you may have. No He will bless you with all the desire of your heart that line up with His plans for your life.
Psalm 37:4–5 NLT
4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. 5 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
When there is close fellowship with God, (in other words you are seeking him out and not worrying about how you are going to make it today) Then your hearts desires will match God’s will and purpose for your life.
This is important because it brings us to our first point which is
1. Always seek the perfect will of God for your life.
You say well Pastor P how do you do that?
Psalm 20:4 NLT
4 May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.
and that ties right back into Psalms 37:4-5
Psalm 37:4–5 NLT
4 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. 5 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
So if your committing everything you do to the Lord and it lines up with His perfect will for your life, then you will succeed in all you touch.
Now how does this tie back into Matthew 6:25
Matthew 6:25 NLT
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
The Lord is more concerned with you being aligned with His perfect and complete will for your life then He is feeding and providing drink for you. Or in todays world providing you with material possessions. Again if doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy those things when he blesses you with them. He owns them all and wants you to enjoy them in moderation. But He is more concerned with the plans and purpose He has for you and you being aligned with His will for your life.
Which brings us to point number 2.
2. Listen with a heart open to the kingdom of God.
This is why Jesus says isn’t life more then food and clothing? In other words isn’t life more then Material things? You can have all of that and still be unfulfilled and dissatisfied.
So many people are all day everyday and they get all of that but are still not happy. Why? because the focus is on the wrong thing. The focus needs to be on God and His kingdom. Or on doing what is right and reaping the blessings of doing the will of the Father in your life.
John 4:13 - 14 (NLT)
John 4:13–14 NLT
13 Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
The woman at the well thought she was just going to get some basic needs meet! But Christ presented a whole new plan for her needs, a plan that would change her life forever and those around her that she went back and told what happened. She was fulfilling the will of God in a great and mighty way. In a way that was aligning with the perfect will of God for her life.
See it’s not just about material possessions on the earth. It’s about God’s complete and perfect purpose and will for your life and then all these other things will be added to your life.
Which brings us to our closing point
3. The quicker you turn over your will to God’s will the faster His will and purpose can begin for you.
I have seen when I was out of the will of God and how things were so out of control in my life and the faster I got back to the will and purpose of God’s plan the fast things got bak to a balanced life.
That doesn’t mean I didn’t have some challenges. I absolutely did and still do. As long as you are alive you will go through some storms. But what it does mean is that God will be with you in the storms and you will come out of the storms a strong version of yourself.
Thats what this life is all about, becoming so dependent on God that you will not worry about the whims of this life, but will say God I know you got me and so I am going to focus on doing what you have called me to do.
I want to close with a story of a great missionary named George Muller.
How does one man care for ten thousand orphans and raise millions of dollars (in today’s currency) without asking for a single donation or ever going into debt? By taking God seriously on His word in Matthew 7:7—ask and it will be given to you.
George Muller built five orphan houses and cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime. When children became old enough to be independent, Muller prayed with each individually, placing a Bible in their right hand and money in their left. He explained to children that if they held onto what was in their right hand, God would always make sure something was in their left.
Every child graduated with a job lined up, and some outsiders accused Muller of raising the poor above their “natural station” in British life. After Muller died, his orphanages supported over 100,000 orphans with food, clothing, and a home.
But before Muller ever called upon God to care for others, he had to learn to trust God with his own life. When Muller first told his father he wanted to become a missionary, his father cut off funding for his college tuition. Though he felt a bit “silly,” Muller fell onto his knees and asked God to support him. A professor knocked on his door within an hour, offering Muller a paid tutoring job.
This stranger convinced Muller that he no longer needed to be anxious about any of his temporal needs. “As long as I really sought to serve the Lord,” Muller professed, “as long as I sought the kingdom of God and His righteousness, these my temporal wants would be added unto me.”
See it’s all about keeping God at the center of it all and then watching what He does for you when you least expect it.
Keep your eyes on Him and not the need. For the need has already been meet.
Let’s pray - Heavenly Father we have little faith sometimes and find ourselves trying to rely on our own abilities. We need you now Lord more then ever before to help us in our times doubt and lack of faith. We are so simple but you are so great and can, and will take care of our needs when we put you center of all that lies in front of us. We life the woman at the well have such an abundance of blessings sitting in front of us if we just trust you. Help us to trust you Lord and show us what we must do to get to where you are taking us. We trust you Lord and put all of our confidence in you that your perfect and complete will and purpose will be done in our lives in Jesus name we pray. Amen!
