Have You ever had to go somewhere where you did not know the destination? It can be nerve racking.
You have to really trust a person to let them take you somewhere without knowing where. for me the only person I really trust like that is Karen. I do not trust most of my friends to take me somewhere that I do not know where we are going. This is because I know my friends that would take me places like
Cusco Hotel
Clown Hotel
Snake Island
Or California
But what if you were asked to pack up everything and leave everything you know? could you do it?
Today we are looking at a man that was asked to do just that and His name was Abram
Genesis 12:1–9 (NIV)
The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.
Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.
God told Abram to go and Abram said yes and went.
He did not know where
He did not know what would happen
He did not go to Zillow to see how the housing prices are or how good the school system was, HE JUST WENT.
I believe that today more than ever before we want all the answers before we will move in our faith.
There is nothing wrong with planning, but what if all the answers are not there?
Like God is calling you to go on a missions trip, much like we talked about last week and you just say no, because you do not know where the funds will come from.
Abram was told to go on a journey, to a land that God said He would show him, not to a preplanned place that Abram knew. But Abram had to step out in faith to go.
God does not always give us all the details
Sometimes it might not even make sense
or maybe it is something that we do not thing we can do
So many times we let ourselves get in the way of God
We make excuses
we shrug things off
we let our weakness get in the way
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 NIV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
But we do not like being weak, but when we rely on our own strength we are our weakest and to be totally honest, when we are like this are in pride and saying that I know better then God.
We need to leave behind all the reasons why we cannot take the journey God is calling you too.
That Journey can be
setting aside time to pray every day
setting aside time to study His Word
Going on a missions trip
getting ride of something that you know is taking you away from God
and so on
Gregory of Nyssa emphasized that true spiritual growth often requires stepping away from the familiar and trusting God for the unknown.
If there are things that are keeping you from true spiritual growth, its time to get ride of them and step up and step out in faith and follow the calling God has laid out for you. Abram went out in faith and it was counted to him as righteousness.
So the Question Today is this

What Journey Is God Calling You On This Year?

And what steps do you need to take to make sure that you are ready to follow God’s call?
There is a white board in the back and if you are ready I want you to sign it, it is a contract between you and God so take it seriously. but the terms are this
I AM willing to leave behind what’s comfortable and step out in faith, trusting God with the journey He’s calling me to in 2025?
And what way better to start this journey and commitment then to share in the Lord’s Supper

Lord’s Supper

Matthew 26:26–28 NIV
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
