Psalm 65 “11 You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance. 12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, 13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.”
Prayer
In 1871 Dwight L Moody was a great preacher, led laerge meetings in Chicago and was in his mind and effective minister. In his journal he tells a story of finishing his meetings and two ladies staying back to pray. after it happened a few time hes went back and he asked them what they were oraying for and they polotely responded “we are praying for you”…. Moody responded with “dont pray for me, why dont you pray for the people”???…. their response to his question would be the beginning of an incredible path forward from that point. they leaned in and said to him “we are praying for you to recieve the power”. The power of the holy spirit. from that moment he had an incredible thirst and hunger for whetever this was that God was yet to give him and so he he earnestly prayed “Go give me this power, anoing me with this power”. and one day while walking in lower manhattan in New York City suddenly in a moment He felt the power of the anointing of the spirit rush over him. from that point on his meetings were different he said. his minisrty was the same, but there was a power he didnt have before and he knew - Those ladies prayers had been answered
Today is anointing sunday at Colonial church: There is something signiricaqnt that God has for you in 2025. an assignment, a purpose, a
Why the anointing? why are we talking about. Why is it necessary: simply put - Because you need it.
“to anoint means to “smear or to cover” / And it was symbolic of covering or blessing and sanctification and being set apart
The the bible we see
Kings were anointed: to rule / to reign
1 Samuel 16:12–13 ESV
12 And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.
David wrote in Psalm 23:5 “5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”
David knew the power of the anointing when He faced Goliath: He knew that God was with him.
Its why as well David when in dispute with Saul had the chance to cut off his head but instead cut off the corner of his robe
1 Samuel 24:6–7 “6 He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put out my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.” 7 So David persuaded his men with these words and did not permit them to attack Saul. And Saul rose up and left the cave and went on his way.”
Priests were anointed: to Minister
Sick were anointed: And were healed
The tabernacle was anointed / the very presence of God
Jesus was anointed: It was prophesied that he would be anointed for a purpose, a task, to do the fathers will - to reach people
Isaiah 61 “1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; 3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
….
And then in Jesus earthly ministry it begins with his anointing
Matthew 3:16 “16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him;”
Matthew 4:1 “1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”
God appoints and God anoints: in 2025 you have the incredible opportunity to be used by God for his holy service.
Is that something that excites you or frightens you. The truth is: it should do both. The call of God and being used by God should both excite us, but frighten us to grip in a good sense so tightly onto God that we have a daily desperation for his presence, his direction…his help.
Are you up for that kind of Faith-Filled-2025?
Anointing by the Holy Spirit is needed for the 4 following reasons:

its for Protection

There very well maybe battles you face this year. the anointing of the spirit of God will protect you from the firery darts of the enemy
the anointing will be something that covers you in battle / Thats what the pouring on the head was about so that it was a complete covering like a spiritual crown being placed OVER YOU to protect you as you fight. as you wage war. as you take ground. as you
that protects you as you fight
The devil has a tough time with people who are anointed: he has an easy time with people who are vunerable.
You may think that battle is natural. its with a person. its not - its with a spirit. How can you fight a supernatural battle with natural armor? you cant - you need the anointing.
**our church is a family - but oour church is an army. we are in a spiritual battle. i need you anointed as we move forward and take ground as a church. I really struggle when i see people taken out in our church by the enemy because
