GOD IS!
THEREFORE…
Romans 11:33-12:8
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
TO NOT BELIEVE IN
GOD:
LET ME INTRODUCE
YOU TO MY GOD
HOW BIG IS GOD?
Wise beyond understanding (11:33)
Doesn’t need advice because He is smarter than
everyone (11:34)
Doesn’t owe anyone anything because he never needs
to borrow (11:35)
Everything exits because of God and for God’s glory
(11:36)
IF I BELIEVE GOD IS ALL
THAT…
GOD IS! THEREFORE:
Be a living sacrifice (12:1a)
It’s reasonable! (12:1b)
“In view of God’s acts of mercy, it is entirely fitting
that we commit ourselves without reservation to
him” (NAC, pg. 232)
Basically:
LIVE TO GIVE!
HOW CAN I LIVE TO GIVE?
Don’t be like the world, but be transformed by the
Bible (12:2)
Don’t be proud – It’s God who made you the way you
are (12:3)
God made you a member of the church with unique
gifts (12:4; 1 Cor. 12)
HOW CAN I LIVE TO GIVE?
Use your gifts! (12:6a)
God is!
Therefore, live to give
…by humbly using your unique spiritual gifts
…to build God’s Church.
UNDERSTANDING SPIRITUAL GIFTS
They “are not natural talents, skills, or abilities, such as are
possessed by believers and unbelievers alike” (MacArthur
Study Bible, pg. 1591)
The Holy Spirit enables every spiritual gift.
Every believer has a spiritual gift.
Every spiritual gift is vital to the Church.
Spiritual gifts are for building up the body of Christ
Some spiritual gifts have ceased.
WHAT SPIRITUAL GIFTS LOOK LIKE
TODAY
Prophecy (12:6b) - public proclamation of the Word of God
Ministry (12:7a) - “from the same Greek word as ‘deacon’…this
refers to those who serve…has broad application include
every kind of practical help.”
Teaching (12:7b) - “The ability to interpret, clarify, systematize,
and explain God’s truth clearly.”
Exhortation (12:8a) - “The gift which enables a believer to
effectively call others to obey and follow God’s truth.”
WHAT SPIRITUAL GIFTS LOOK LIKE
TODAY
Giving (12:8b) – “Simplicity, singlemindedness, and openhearted generosity.”
Leading (12:8c) – “Paul calls this gift, ‘administrations’ (1 Cor. 12:28),
a word that means ‘to guide’ and is used of the person who
steers a ship.”
Cheerful Mercy (12:7b) - “One who actively shows sympathy and
sensitivity to those in suffering and sorrow, and who has both
the willingness and the resources to help lessen their
afflictions.”
