T h e G os p el o f Matthew Jesus the King “Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.” (Romans 3:19 ESV) fl Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and af icted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement [punishment] that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned— every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:4-6 ESV) “This, the pow'r of the cross: Christ became sin for us; Took the blame, bore the wrath We stand forgiven at the cross.” Words & Music: Keith Getty, 1974-; Stuart Townend, 1963-
