The Power of One Word

Notes
Transcript
God gives us words and these words shape us and or lives.
A good way to discribe this word is after it has left the authors mouth it becomes something others read.
It can be literal words on a paper to be read.
It can also mean a person who embodies and demonstrates that word with their life.
These words that God gives us stay with us and become a part of our identity.
Jesus is that word made flesh.
Hebrews 4:12 (NASB95)
12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
These words given to us take root in us to bring life.
I have seen the words of God change people in moments and over time.
Isaiah 40:7–8 (NASB95)
7 The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.
The woman at the well story:
The word of God to us is like living water. It brings life from within us.
Observation. What Jesus said to the woman did not change any of the circumstance she was still in.
She still had a past of that many guys and she still was not married to the man she was with.
She was likely still rejected by others only now she was the town crazy lady.
The difference was that she was not rejected by Jesus and she was sharring with others some about Him.
Its interesting to me that she was telling others her story that she used to be ashamed of now proudly telling everyone that Jesus knows all about her.
Did the woman at the well ever drink water again?
Did the woman at the well ever have a bad day again?
The words Jesus spoke to this Samaritan woman were alive in her. Taking on new definitions of what living water looks like every day.
John 15:7 (NASB95)
7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
This word is the kind that is spoken to you heart and kept alive in your heart.
It has been spoken, it is being spoken and it will continue to be spoken.
You are loved!
It was spoken to you, it is being spoken to you and it will be spoken to you. No matter what you do.
Hebrews 4:2 (NASB95)
2 For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.
The people who miss out on God’s word coming alive in us are the people who hang on to a definition in their head.
Instead of looking for ways the word He gave us is true we look for ways to prove the definition in our head is true. We can miss what is happening right in front of us.
The last line in Heb 4:2
“because it was not united by faith in those who heard.”
If you want these words to be alive in you and shape you and who God is, they need to be united by faith.
United by your connection, trust, relationship with God.
They become part of who He is to you and who you are to Him.
It means you keep in conversation with Him.
The words that God gives you, bring life to you.
He is the word. John 1:14
What words has your Father given to you?
Are you letting those words be alive and give life to you?
Are you abiding in those words and letting Him continue to speak and shape?
Are you letting your life become the word that others read?
Does what you say with your life represent those words that He gave you?
You dont become the embodiment of these words by works.
You become the embodiment of these words by letting them in and letting them shape you.
Examples:
You are loved
You dont prove you are loved by doing works that you think that looks like.
You do embody being loved when you let them in to every part of your being.
Your walk will change because you know that you know that you are loved.
The way and why you serve others will be different and evident because you know that you know that you are loved.
I was given the word ‘hope’ a couple years ago.
I will continue to let that word live in me. It shapes my life more today than it did when I was first given that word.
When I was first given Hope, it was out side of me.
I thought you get hope when God promised you something and hope fulfilled would be getting that something.
But you see, I was given that word hope, and it was alive, sharp and piercing. At first it was a word I was afraid to have. I did not want hope anymore, because hope caused me so much pain and suffering.
I even had scriptures to prove why its not good. Hope differed makes the heart sick.
But Hope has been in me since then. I have been abiding in hope.
Hope is not something I seek to find one day.
Hope is something that is in me and it is growing like a seed that is now a seedling.
One day when someone reads my life it will be obvious that Hope was a living healthy word that my life stated loud and clear.
One day those words that were given to me will have been given to those I impacted.
4 Steps to apply your word of 2025:
Ask for a word or words.
Ask for scriptures to help you understand that word.
Plan around that word for this year.
Break it down into daily steps.
1. Ask for a word or words.
We will do this today.
If you do not get a word do not worry about it, spend time listening and it will come.
This may take some discipline, but you will hear more than once.
If you do not have a word for the first half of the year, then your word is to seek Jesus.
You can also help others in your life find a word by talking about it.
Ask them if they were to have a word what do you think it would be?
Your word is yours now for life.
The word Jesus gives you is about who He is in your life.
He wants to reveal more of who He is in that specific way to you and through you.
2. Ask for scriptures to help you understand that word.
Sometimes people will get a scripture that does not seem relevant, dont dismiss it.
Look up the word in your bible app or on Blueletterbible.com
Maybe a song will come to you that will be about that word.
Spend time with God in the morning or on your way to work listening to the song and God at the same time.
What do You want to show me about You as this word?
What do You want to teach me about this word in the bible today?
Pay attention to signs throughout your week.
3. Plan around that word for this year.
If your word is something like adventure, plan some adventures this year.
If God gave you that word it means He wants to show you how He is an adventure somehow too.
Your word is like a filter or cypher to make decisions from.
Plan your weekly calendar based on your word.
4. Break it down into daily steps.
Wake up early to read the bible and that scripture God gave you.
What do You want to show me about You as this word?
What do You want to teach me about this word in the bible today?
Write down what He tells you in a journal or notes.
Look at your choices of the day and seek at least one that fits your word.
Bring your words from the last couple years up every once and while and see if any stand out that day.
Example Adventure:
You have an option to go the same restaurant you like, or you can try the new place that opened.
You should try the new place if your word is adventure.
Maybe God will introduce you to a new favorite, or meet someone that has been asking God for help that day.
4 Steps to apply your word of 2025:
Ask for a word or words.
Ask for scriptures to help you understand that word.
Plan around that word for this year.
Break it down into daily steps.
Closing:
You can live this year and hope it will all work the way God wants it to by chance.
Or
You can live your life around the word God gives you on purpose and watch His words bring breath to your life.
His words will always produce life in you.
All we must do is listen to Jesus for the words He wants to give us.
Father’s words are living, active, sharp, and life-giving to you.
Take a look at the words that God has given in you.
Spend some time abiding in God and letting his words come alive in you.
See what else will unfold from those words.
Before you make a normal decision that you usually make, think about the words He gave you. Does that change what you would do?
Are you letting your life become the word that others read?
Does what you say with your life represent those words that He gave you?
God’s word to us is living water that will spring forth life.
Activation:
Jesus, what word are You giving me this year of 2025?
What scripture do You want me to abide in this year?
Jesus, how are You this word in my life?
How do You want me to plan my life around this word?
Other resources:
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
17 “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
7 The grass withers, the flower fades, When the breath of the Lord blows upon it; Surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
2025:
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. 23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. 24 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
