Introduction: On the Radio this week a person in jail said that he couldn’t stop using Alcohol and Drugs. A Christian told him that Jesus could help him to stop. He got saved, and he said that with Jesus’ help he hadn’t used Alcohol or Drugs for 8 Years.

I. Devil Wants to Get in His Snare and Make You Captive

A. Resist the Devil

B. And He Will Flee from You

James 4:7 “7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

C. The Devil is a Roaring Lion Who Walk About Seeking Whom He May Devour

D. You Have to Be Sober and Vigilant Against the Devil

1 Peter 5:8 “8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

II. It is Better to Never Give into Temptation and Become Captive to a Sin

A. All Temptations Are Common to Man

B. God is Faithful Not Tempt You Above What You Are Able

C. God Make Away of Escape

D. So, You May Be Able to Bear It

1 Corinthians 10:13 “13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

E. We Have to Pray Like Jesus Told His Disciples, So You Will Not Enter Into Temptation

Luke 22:40 “40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.”

III. It is Better to Teach People to Not Be Come Captive to Sins That Will Control Them

Like Alcohol, Drugs, Adultery, Lying, Etc.

A. A Servant of the Lord Must:

B. It in Strive

C. Be Gentle to All Men

D. Apt to Teach by Example

E. Patient: Long Suffering

F. Do It With Meekness

2 Timothy 2:24–26 “24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”

G. Joshua Said the Book of Law Should Not Depart from Your Mouth, and You Meditate Therein Day and Night

H. So, You Will Keep It

Joshua 1:8 “8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
