Review:

We are walking through Isaiah, 40-66
-This is one long excursis, one continual prophecy, some of the most principle points we’ve spoke of so far are these:
-Israel is to be comforted, her punishment is done.
-The Lord is coming to visit His people.
-The Lords Arm is going to rule for Him.
-A great and grand truth told is emphasized over and over again, is that the Lord is absolutely sovereignty over all creation, both in creating the world and in it’s constant governance:
-in establishing and deposing ruler.
-in rescuing the needy and afflicted, in renewing the strength of His people
-in breaking the wicked and proud, in the destruction of the babylonians, who stand in for all the enemies of God’s people.
-in good, and even in calamity, in the destructions and devastation of the world, He is sovereign.
-The Lord call the ends from the beginnings, perfectly always.
-He is God, and there is no one else.
-He gives a specific example of raising of Cyrus the conqueror, by name. And the specific details of Cyrus’ life and campain described in a way far any natural explanation.
- because of these things, those who trust in idols are fools.
-Continually throws down the gauntlet on false gods, which are the objects of worship of the pagan nations.
-On the basis of these things, God’s people are to believe in new things.
-He has called forth Israel, His chosen people, from the ends of the earth. He has constituted them as a nation, that they may know and believe that God is, and there is no other. They will be His witnesses. His conquerors, His servants.
-Yet, they fail. There is still the greater Servant, the Head of the Servant of the Lord,
-The Father promises His Servant that He will give Him to be a covenant to the world. We see this with later revelation as being a promise from the Father to the Son.
Isaiah 42:1–4 LSB
1 “Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen one in whom My soul is well-pleased. I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. 2 “He will not cry out or raise His voice, Nor make His voice heard in the street. 3 “A crushed reed He will not break And a faintly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will bring forth justice in truth. 4 “He will not be faint or crushed Until He has established justice in the earth; And the coastlands will wait expectantly for His law.”
Isaiah 42:6–7 LSB
6 “I am Yahweh, I have called You in righteousness; I will also take hold of You by the hand and guard You, And I will give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the nations, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who inhabit darkness from the prison.
-who is given as a covenant with the world, for the salvation of the world - the salvation of the nations
-He brings out the blind, and gives light, and brings prisoners out of the dungeons.
-He is the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ,
-He will lead forth JUSTICE TO VICTORY, and the coastlands, the distant shores, will wait for His law.
43,
-We see prediction of latter day glory, of great outpouring of the Spirit of God on all flesh, on the dry places, and the sons of Israel will pop up all over. They will write Yahweh on themselves and call upon the name of Jacob with reverence.
-Yahweh has redeemed Israel, and no other nation. This is stated, and then immediatly shown afterward that God has called forth His sons and daughts from the east and the west,
He has brought them together, and has gathered them, He challenges them out of their ignorance, and reveals Himself to them, that they would be Israel, His people.
**read 43:5-10**
You see Israel constituted as a nation gathered together from accross the earth, for the purpose of them knowing and believing that God is He. He is. He does not change.
He cannot be resisted!
And He does not remember the sins of His people.
He promises that the plunder of the nations will be given to His people,
That the gentile nations will come and bow down toward them and know that God is with them,
A promise which Jesus takes and applies to a little Gentile church congregation, that the Jews persecuting who are really not Jews, they will come and bow down before them and know that God has loved them.
The Lord declares in 45 that He created the world to be inhabited, that He has made Himself available to the world.
He culminates with the command to all the world, to be saved! For unto Jesus Christ, every knee will bow.
Every knee, the ends of the earth will say “Only in Yahweh have they righteousness and strength,” the men will come to Him from a far, and thus in Yahweh shall all the seed of Israel be justified and boast.
-I believe we have seen very repeatedly that Israel is identified with those whom God has called. Those whom God calls and brings from the ends of the earth.
46
-Yahweh carries His people, while the idols are carried off. - the absolute lameness of the idols
-fallen and can’t get up.
-He firmly establishes His counsels,
-He brings His rightousness from afar upon His people. -He bestows His glory on His people in Zion and because of that Israel radiates His glory.
Then we saw that
the Lord throws down Babylon,
That the Lord brings evil upon Babylon
That the Lord burns Babylon
Last month, in detail I laid out the exegetical hypothesis that
Such hypothesis is one which has been stated previously is that in these prophecies of Isaiah “we are to understand the church with its Head, or rather the Messiah with the church which is his body, sent by Jehovah to reclaim the world from its apostacy and ruin. This agrees exactly with the mission both of the Redeemer and His people as described in Scripture, and accounts for all the variations which embarrass the interpretaion of the passages iin question uipon any more exclusive exegetical hypothesis.” (Alexander vol 2, 131.)
This which has analagy in several places of Scripture, including the seed of Abraham, the Church, the line of Prophets,
And this was necessary to account for the variation in the way that the Servant of Yahweh is spoken of, as well as the application of the text to both Christ, and Israel, and the Apostles.
We Saw that the Lord elected and sent His Servant, the Christ, to bring back Israel, and not just Israel, but all the far off peoples: Jesus, as the Messiah, as the Head, the King of Israel, and the federal Head, the representative of all the elect children of God, He is the true Israel.
It is He who accomplishes everything which Israel corporately as the Servant was tasked to do.
Here He is spoken of as being raised up for the purpose of gathering back the lost nation of Israel. He is sent to reclaim both the nation of Israel, and also the whole world, the rest of the nations as well.
In this verse He is sent to reclaim the nation of Israel,
And yet, there are many within that nation who will not be gathered in the nation of Israel, due to their stubbornness and hardness of heart.
Yet despite the despite the apparent failure of His mission, despite the rejection of Him by the leadership and the unbelieving Jews, despite being despised and rejected by men, the Lord will sustain Him and prosper His hand. The Lord will strengthen Him.
It was too small of a thing for Him to be sent to save the nation of Israel, the natural born Isrealite, the natural house of Abraham, but the Servant of Yahweh, the head was to be given a light to the nations,
and the apostles state that God has commanded them the same thing, as they are in Christ as the servant of the Lord, and so also that is commanded to you.

The LORD brings a Day of Salvation

The Father brings the New Day of Salvation through the Son To the World

A Day of Salvation

Isaiah 49:8 (LSB)
8 Thus says Yahweh, “In an acceptable time I have answered You, And in a day of salvation I have helped You;
The Lord, still speaking to the servant, says:
In an appointed time, He has appointed a time for grace, and favor.
Just as the previous verses, this is still addressed to the Messiah and His people.
The Father moves from speaking of the success of the mission of the Son, the Head of Israel, the people of God, the ancient church, and His people,

to an assurance of the Father answering the Son in His Salvation.

This is a promise of success to the Son in His mission. The Covenant of redemption. When the Son entered into the world to obtain redemption, He did it knowing that the Father had promised Him success, and that He was equipped with everything needed to carry out His mission.
Here the Father promises to the Servant of Yahweh, the one who is led by the Messianic Head, the role which the Son took upon Himself. The Father promises that in an acceptable time, He has answered Him.
This is a prophetic declaration of the Father to the Son that the Father has answered and vindicated the Son, by His resurrection from the dead. This is the “You have answered me” of Psalm 22.
The Psalm which expresses the grief of the Messiah, His suffering, being surrounded by dogs, and robbers. it begins with the very words which Jesus cried out on the cross “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me. It details on and on, the suffering of the Messiah.
Until verse 21,
Psalm 22:19–21 LSB
19 But You, O Yahweh, be not far off; O my Strength, hasten to my help. 20 Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the mouth of the lion; From the horns of the wild oxen You have answered me.

The Father answered the Son through the Resurrection.

Romans 1:4 LSB
4 who was designated as the Son of God in power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

Christ was raised for our justifiction

Romans 4:25 LSB
25 He who was delivered over on account of our transgressions, and was raised on account of our justification.
The resurrection of Jesus was the declaration that His sacrifice was acceptable to God on our behalf, that Christ was righteous and innocent. Christ rose and ascended, defeating death and interceeding for His chosen people.
His resurrection was no less than the salvation of the Messiah (in respect to His human nature) and His people, and through it, Christ is designated the Son of God in power.

As it would not have been enough for Christ to undergo the wrath and judgment of God, and to endure the curse due to our sins, without his coming forth a conqueror, and without being received into celestial glory, that by his intercession he might reconcile God to us, the efficacy of justification is ascribed to his resurrection, by which death was overcome; not that the sacrifice of the cross, by which we are reconciled to God, contributes nothing towards our justification, but that the completeness of his favour appears more clear by his coming to life again.

The Son offered Himself up for His people, and the Father answered Him. The Son intercedes for them, and the Father answers Him.
The Father answered the Son, the Messianic Head of God’s chosen people.
And because the Father answered the Son, so the Father answers the people of the Son through the Son.

The Father now answers us through the Son.

He answers the elect.
For 1 Cor 1:30-31
1 Corinthians 1:30–31 LSB
30 But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
The Son, who was raised up after His sacrifice, is now our righteousness and sanctification and redemption, and by His doing we are in Christ Jesus. He died for the chosen and made us to be sanctification and righteousness and redemption.
Thus, Christ died for His people, the Father heard and answered Him, vindicating Him, accepting His sacrifice, judging Jersusalem on behalf of the wrong He suffered.
Through this resurrection, and ascension of the Head of God’s chosen people, of His body, the church, is given this same day of salvation.
Now salvation is offered to us. To All who come to the Father through Christ.
For Paul says:
2 Corinthians 5:20–6:2 LSB
20 So then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as God is pleading through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 1 And working together with Him, we also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain— 2 for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”—
Just as we saw last week with the application of verse 6 to the Apostles, so also we see this verse, which is addressed to the Servant of Yahweh, given by the Apostle to all who would come to Christ:
Further confirmation of the Exegetical hypothesis of the Servant of Yahweh as a complex person of the Head and a corporate body of the elect church.
This day of salvation is given to the body of Christ. To all who come to the Father through Him. The Day of salvation of the declaration and vindication of the Messiah now is given to all who come to the Son, because the Son is righteous, Because the Son scarified and paid the debt, because the Son intercedes now for the sinner, He goes between the Father and the sinner, and through this the sinner is made acceptable to God.
Heb 7:25
Hebrews 7:25 LSB
25 Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
The sinner is clothed in the salvation of the Messiah. by faith, by the instrument of faith, so that it would be a gift. Because it must be a gift, that there is no boasting,
by faith,
the sinner is covered by the blood of the Lord, by His suffering, by His death, and His salvation, His resurrection, and His righteousness is a covering, it is the mercy seat over us, between us and the consuming fire of God’s holiness.

So that lawlessness can be put away, that murder, bitterness, wrath and envy,

fornication, pornography, adultery, false testimony, extortion and theivery, drunkeness,

That all these things would be removed from the creation, that sinners would be recreated as saints, and be saved to sin no more.
And the righteousness by which Christ obtained the resurrection from the dead is given to all who have faith in Him, all who are “in Him”, they are considered to have the righteousness of Christ, and their debt paid, they were punished in Christ on the cross, they died with Christ, and they were raised with Christ.
all who believe in the power of God to raise Jesus from the dead, all who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Do you know this salvation, do you know this new day? is Christ your Head? do you submit as His bride?

New Day. New Creation.

The Father answered the Son in a new day of salvation. A new Day. On a Day of salvation. An Appointed time. An acceptable time.
This Prophecy speaks of this new day.
He speaks of a day, His appointed time, of favor, of grace, the Father has answered the Son, and the people of the Son through the Son.
The Servant of Yahweh has received salvation through the work of their Head, their champion.
What a day? What a day. It is the DAY of salvation, it is the day of the new creation. A day of freedom from the tyranny of sin, of evil. It is the day which the Lord has made.
Speaking of this day:
Psalm 118:22–24 LSB
22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief corner stone. 23 This is from Yahweh; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day which Yahweh has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, the new creation has begun. The day of the resurrection of the Messiah. The first day of the week.
It is the day of the creation of a new creation. A new world, has broken in. It is the day where the Son entered into His Sabbath. His rest, from all the work of His humiliation.
Back to the text of 2 cor 5,
2 Corinthians 5:17–6:2 (LSB)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,
19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their transgressions against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 So then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as God is pleading through us. We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
1 And working together with Him, we also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain—
2 for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation”—
The whole world being reconciled.
This salvation is the beginning of a new creation, this day of salvation, is the new day, it is the new time.
The grounding of the new creation is the reconciling the world of sinners to God through the Gospel, and this teaching is grounded in the prophecy of Isaiah.
The apostle says that today is the day of salvation to you! We live in a new age, a new dispensation, we are living the breaking in of a new creation! This is the day which the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!
The world waited until this salvation, which had not come.
Hebrews 9:11–12 LSB
11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, 12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy places once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden, disfellowshiped, cursed, covered with the blood of animal skins,
And that was the state of humanity toward God for the ages, for thousands of years,
Until our champion, our Head entered into the Holy of Holies—the very presence of the Father Himself, His throne room in Heaven, and with His own innocent and holy blood obtained eternal redemption.
Once for all.
There is no unbloody representation of the sacrifice on the alter again and again, but Christ has once and for all put away sin for the whole world. He has sat down at the right hand of the Father
And now the word goes out to all creation, “Today is the day of salvation” Today is the day which the Lord has made. The Father has answered the Son. All who come to the Father through the Son are saved.
Repent and believe the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. The Messiah has come, and His name is Jesus.
The new creation has begun, it has broken in to the old, and God has given a new day for the remembrance of it,
not the seven day which is a covenant established in the first creation, in the old creation, when God rested from His creative work,
But on the first day of the week, when Christ rose, and appeared to His gathered disciples twice, and poured out the Holy Spirit, the day which is called the Lord’s day, the day in which God entered into His redemptive rest.
The Lord created the first creation in the week, and blessed the seventh day:
Genesis 2:3 LSB
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created in making it.
The blessed and set apart the seventh day, which is a natural and moral Law. He fixed the Seventh day as a rest for all of creation.
Now, the prophet in the Psalms says in exhortation to God’s people:
Psalm 95:7–11 (LSB)
7 Today, if you hear His voice,
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, As in the day of Massah in the wilderness,
9 “When your fathers tried Me, They tested Me, though they had seen My work.
10 “For forty years I loathed that generation, And said they are a people who wander in their heart, And they do not know My ways.
11 “Therefore I swore in My anger, They shall never enter into My rest.”
God fixed the seventh day, that Sabbath rest in the Law, God gave rest in the land of Cannan
But God speaks of another day, a day of rest in the new creation, which is not the rest of the seventh day, nor is it the rest in the land of Canaan
Hebrews 4:4–11 LSB
4 For He has spoken somewhere in this way concerning the seventh day: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this passage, “They shall not enter My rest.” 6 Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news proclaimed to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7 He again determines a certain day, “Today,” saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, “Today if you hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9 So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10 For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11 Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall into the same example of disobedience.
And so, God established a rest with the first creation, which the seventh day existed as a token and pledge of the first,
But God appoints another day, this Today, this new day, which the Lord has created, and this is the day of the Gospel, the day of the new Creation, the day of salvation which
has come through the resurrection of the Savior, this is the creation of the new creation, breaking into the world.
So do not harden your heart, but believe the Gospel.
Today is the day, hear and believe, accept this salvation, that you may enter the eternal Sabbath rest, the endless Shabat.
Every Christian who believes becomes part of the new creation breaking into the world,
And the Sabbath that remains, that remains for us, to enter into the rest which God has obtained from His works,
This what the Lord’s day Sabbath signifies.
[This is a new creation, the Lord finished His work, and rested, and the symbol of this in the New Covenant is the Lord’s day.
And so thus, we don’t worry about the OT Jewish feast days, or festivals or new moons or sabbaths, but in the Lord’s day we have a pledge a symbol of the new creation, which God has made, and we maintain the moral and natural aspect of the covenant of works.
Because He has appointed a New Day.]

A Covenant To Establish the Land

A New Covenant

Isaiah 49:8 (LSB)
8 And I will guard You and give You for a covenant of the people, To establish the land, to make them inherit the desolate inheritance;
Give The Messiah and His people as a covenant to the world. To raise up the world from the ruined state of the fall.
A New Covenant, a covenant of grace, which gives the power of His people unto obedience, and brings forgiveness of sins.
This new covenant, is what we enter in outwardly upon baptism, but inwardly through faith.
Hebrews 8:10–13 LSB
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their minds, And upon their hearts I will write them. And I will be their God, And they shall be My people. 11 And they shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen, And everyone his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ For all will know Me, From the least to the greatest of them. 12 For I will be merciful to their iniquities, And I will remember their sins no more.” 13 When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.
Christ brought this new covenant, Christ is the covenant between God and the world. That all who come to the Father must come through Christ. Christ is the head of the new humanity,
Just as Adam was is the head of man in the first creation, so Christ is the head of man in the new creation, He is the new Adam, in the New Creation, of a new people, a redeemed people, the new creation, the Israel of God.
1 Corinthians 15:22 LSB
22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:45 LSB
45 So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
A New Covenant,
one which enables obedience to the Law of God, Though the Spirit.
The new covenant is the covenant of Grace, one which brings evangelistic success, they will all know Him, there will be no more neighbors to teach,
and one which brings forgiveness of sins, through the blood of the lamb.
Which the Apostle demonstrates in Christ:
Romans 8:1–4 (LSB)
1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (forgivness of sins)
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 so that the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (enablement of obedience)
And Rom 15:8-9
Evangelistic success spoken of:
Romans 15:8–9 LSB
8 For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, 9 and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written, “Therefore I will give praise to You among the Gentiles, And I will sing to Your name.”
Christ is given as a covenant between God and man:
b

To Establish the Land

That the work of Christ is given to establish the land!
That the world will be built up from the waste places of hedonism.
The spreading out of Christians throughout the world, the great commission establishes the Land. The New Covenant, the Covenant which Christ brought, establishes the Land.
Now this is a major point of controversy in theology, that Christ in the New Covenant establishes the land?
The land is originally promised to Abraham and to Abrahams Seed in His covenant.
Now that covenant is fulfilled and subsumed in the New Covenant.
Christs work comes to raise up the desolate heritages, to give the Land to His people, recreate the world of blessing over HIs people.
All of this fits together very nicely:
Follow me:
Galatians 3:16 LSB
16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as referring to many, but rather to one, “And to your seed,” that is, Christ.
Now those promises: that “to your seed”, the only places that phrase is used in all of Genesis, is in reference to the promise of God to give the land to the seed of Abraham.
Genesis 12:7 LSB
7 Then Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “To your seed I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to Yahweh who had appeared to him.
Genesis 13:15 LSB
15 for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your seed forever.
Genesis 15:18 LSB
18 On that day Yahweh cut a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates:
Genesis 17:7–8 LSB
7 “And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your seed after you. 8 “And I will give to you and to your seed after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.”
Genesis 24:7 LSB
7 “Yahweh, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my kin, and who spoke to me and who swore to me, saying, ‘To your seed I will give this land,’ He will send His angel before you, and you will take a wife for my son from there.
And to Issac after him,
Genesis 26:3 LSB
3 “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.
And to Israel
Genesis 28:3 LSB
3 “May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may become an assembly of peoples.
Genesis 35:12 LSB
12 “And the land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, And I will give the land to your seed after you.”
Genesis 48:4 LSB
4 and He said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful and multiply, and I will make you an assembly of peoples, and I will give this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession.’
And so all of these, Paul says is given to Christ, and therefore to Christians who are Abrahams seed in Christ. And this seed, again is a coorporate body, with a Head, which is Christ, and all those who are in Christ.
Galatians 3:28–29 LSB
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to promise.
Therefore, thus and therefore, the Land promise is given to the Christian. To those in Christ.

There is no separate land promise to the some people calling themselves the Jews or to the house of Abrahm outside of Christ, and God owes them nothing.

The promise of the Land is a promise to Christ, and to His people in Christ. If you are in Christ, you are in the temple and house of God, if you are out, it doesn’t matter what bloodline, or allegience you are in, God does not owe you anything.
Now, is the land just given Cannan? is that the land, is that the hope of Christians? Should we get all up in arms over the land of Israel in the east. Go and say, “That’s my land”?
No.
Paul says, not mistakenly says in
Romans 4:13 LSB
13 For the promise to Abraham or to his seed that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Heir of the world! of the World!
The promises of inheritance, Canaan was bout a down payment. A token, an initial promissory note of what is to be the whole creation.
Illustration::
This the world to come:
The world to come Heb 2:5
Hebrews 2:5 LSB
5 For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking.
The world, the earth, which is promised to the seed of Abraham, which is Christ, and all those who are in Christ.
And this land is established through the great commission, through the exploding in of the day of salvation, the new day, the day of the new creation:
The world to come which has been established by Christ:
2 Corinthians 5:17–18 LSB
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,
2 Corinthians 5:17 NA28
17 ὥστε εἴ τις ἐν Χριστῷ, καινὴ κτίσις· τὰ ἀρχαῖα παρῆλθεν, ἰδοὺ γέγονεν καινά.
If anyone is in Christ: New Creation, a new creation, behold, a new creation.
This new creation, this new world, breaks in gradually throughout human history, and then dramatically at the end. It is like a mustard seed which grows, like leaven which leavens the lump.
And so: This acceptable day! Is the inauguration, the breaking in of a new creation through a covenant with the world to establish the Land, the world to be given to Christ and to His people, the seed of Abraham!

The Land of a New creation

For our land is the a new heavens and a new earth, which we will enjoy forever.
New work of creation: Isa 65:17
Isaiah 65:17 LSB
17 “For behold, I am creating a new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be remembered or come upon the heart.
and
Isaiah 66:22 LSB
22 “For just as the new heavens and the new earth Which I make will endure before Me,” declares Yahweh, “So your seed and your name will endure.
The new creation is broken in, but it has not fully arrived, and the seed, the elect seed of Abraham, will endure forever.
This is the land promise of the Christian, the world, the world to come.
2 Peter 3:13 LSB
13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
And John sees the end,
Revelation 21:1 LSB
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
The creation itself waits for this day, as it is the relieving of itself from the curse.
Romans 8:19–20 LSB
19 For the anxious longing of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope
A renewed creation, a regenerated created, a creation which has been purified by the fires of judgment, where the wicked are swept away and God’s people remain.
And it is those who are in Christ, who are the seed of Abraham, heirs of the land, heirs of the new world, they are the Israel of God:
Galatians 6:15–16 LSB
15 For neither is circumcision anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And those who will walk in step with this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
That is the Israel of God, those who are new creations in Christ.
Those who receive the benediction, the Israel of God, are those who are a new creation. Who walk under the new law of faith. In the new covenant which establishes the land, by granting God’s people obedience, the remission of sins, and the promise of evangelistic success.
Peace be upon them.
We will see eventually that the promise is that
For the sons and daughters of Zion, the city of God, will come from all over the world, and the land of Canaan will be too small for them, and they will spread out to the right and to the left.
As verses 8 says, to raise up the desolate heritages:

Application:

Do you know this new day of salvation?
Do you live as a new creature, with respect to the new creation? or do you hold on to the old ways? For those who look back
Live prepared to meet Christ,
Luke 17:32 LSB
32 “Remember Lot’s wife.
Those who can’t let go of the old, who can’t escape the lusts of the flesh, they are pulled back down into the corrupted creation, and the last state of them is worse than the first.
Walk humbly with the Law written on your heart?
Trust in Christ for the forgivness of your sins, the sins of the old man, and put on Christ,
Trust that the that the day is coming where we won’t be able to find anyone to evangelize.

The LORD Creates a Parade of Redemption (9-12

A Freed People

We see as a result of this salvation, this covenant: Redemption and Regeneration
Isaiah 49:9 LSB
9 Saying to those who are bound, ‘Go forth,’ To those who are in darkness, ‘Show yourselves.’ Along the roads they will feed, And their pasture will be on all bare heights.
Redemption:
They are freed prisoners
Freed from sin,
freed from slavery of the power of sin, the consequence of sin,
From literally slavery,
As God’s salvation works its way out into the world, it is a year of Jubelee, the Gospel brings the end of slavery.
Working towards a debt free world.
Christians are blamed today for somehow supporting slavery, yet initially Christians were blamed for having a religion which was only fit for slaves.
Yet the Gospel ends slavery:
1 Corinthians 7:21–23 LSB
21 Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it. But if you are able also to become free, rather do that. 22 For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.
Those bought by God are to be free.
Slavery is still very much with us today. Every time you put yourself in debts of luxery or necessity, you are making yourself a slave to men.
Yes, the Gospel is still working its effects in the world, and we are called to bring the Gospel to those who are bound, and to not become slaves of men ourselves.
The prisoners are set free:
Then a change of figure,
The sheep, feeding on this pastures, on the bare heights, on the places, where they are unlikely to find grass, they will eat, well fed sheep.
Isaiah 49:10 LSB
10 “They will not hunger or thirst, Nor will the scorching heat or sun strike them down; For He who has compassion on them will guide them And will lead them to springs of water.
They will not thirst or hunger. There will be no scarcity, the scarcity of nature which is a result of the fall will be removed.
Debt gone, slavery gone. Scarcity gone. This is the result of the salvation of Christ.
The scorching heat of the sun will not strike them.
The Lord will guide His sheep in the pasture.
Isaiah 49:11 LSB
11 “I will set all My mountains as a road, And My highways will be raised up.

11 וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י כָל־הָרַ֖י לַדָּ֑רֶךְ וּמְסִלֹּתַ֖י יְרֻמֽוּן׃

“And I will set all my mountains for the way, and my roads shall be raised up.”
God will set up His roads, and He will remove every obstetrical which intrudes in their path, and raise up pathways for His chosen people to ascend His holy mountain.
Isaiah 49:12 LSB
12 “Behold, these will come from afar; And behold, these will come from the north and from the west, And these from the land of Sinim.”
These will come from the far away places, the children, those who receive the covenant, who are saved by this new day.
They will come from far off, from the north and west, and Sinim.
There is a debate over the land of Sinim. Where it is. The best hypothesis I know is that it refers to China.
The Lord predicts the gathering of the children from the remotest ends of the earth! all the way out yonder, to the Chinese! Which is a center of a mass of population at this time.
The Lord’s salvation will reach to far away places!
And Again, here we are, at the ends of the earth, partakers of this salvation.

The LORD Commands a rejoicing of Creation(49:13)

A Shout of Joy

Isaiah 49:13 LSB
13 Shout for joy, O heavens! And rejoice, O earth! Break forth into joyful shouting, O mountains! For Yahweh has comforted His people And will have compassion on His afflicted.
All of creation is summoned and commanded to rejoice in great joy over the gathering of God’s people!
Shout for Joy. Singing with joyful singing! The whole creation!
This is the proper response. Gratitude. Thankfulness. Joyful singing. In trials and tribulations. This is it. Joy.
The world is commanded to rejoice, because:

A Comforted People

He has had compassion on His people, He has comforted His afflicted. From all across the world He has brought them to His holy mountain to worship, and to be with Him forever!
These gathered are Yahweh’s people! They are His children! There is no distinction between these far off! Between Jew and Gentile. They come from afar, all of them as sons and daughters.

Application:

Do you live in accordance with the ethic of the new creation?
Do you incur debts for luxury? Do you make yourself a slave of men for luxery?
