GREETING
Good Afternoon… family and friends of Rick, thank you for coming as we pay our last respects to Rick, honor his life and commit Rick to the ground today.
Rick is experiencing the fullness of the presence of Jesus, honestly I’m a little jealous. He is in his heavenly home, pain free, totally restored, and now living out his blessed hope forever. I know we miss him greatly but he is not crying for us, this is just a shell of his body, a reminder of who he was, he is now in the presence of Jesus.
Moments of loss are never easy but these are the moments that remind us that life has a beginning and an ending. The good news is that our final chapter is not complete, that we still have hope because the Lord, our good shepherd wants to lead us today.
I would like to begin by reading a familiar portion of scripture.
A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
PRAYER
Lord we thank you for your presence. I thank you for the lives that have been blessed by Rick.
Thank you for the precious memories that will live on forever and the legacy that will continue through generations to come.
Thank you for the way that he touched so many who’ve had the privilege of knowing him. Bless this time as we commit Rick to the ground today. In Jesus name, AMEN.
COMMITTAL SERVICE
Forasmuch as it has pleased Almighty God, in His wise providence, to take out of this world the soul of our brother, we therefore commit his body to the ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; looking for the resurrection at the last day, and the life of the world to come through our Lord Jesus Christ, as whose coming to judge the world the earth and the sea shall give up their dead; the bodies of those who sleep in HIM shall be changed and be made like His glorious body; according to that power by which HE is able to subdue all things unto Himself.
If you know it, Let’s pray the “The Lord’s Prayer” together.
(Matthew 6:9-13);
Our father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
thy will be done
on Earth, as it is in heaven…
— PRAY:
Lord, we thank you for all the good things you bring to our lives. We thank you that for those who are in Christ, we have true hope beyond the grave and we will see Rick again fully restored to what he was created to be: perfectly whole and wholly perfected as you restore the years the locust have devoured. Only you can do this.
Be with his family as they follow the great example that he set by following the example you set.
In time, Lord bring healing in their lives we pray, Amen.
