Today we use the word unprecedented to describe events that we have never seen before. The book of Acts recounts a changing world and the birth of the Church. It begins with instructions and the promised Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:1-11

While he was with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “Which,” he said, “you have heard me speak about; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days.”
John 14:15–17 (ESV)
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
The Book of Acts details the history of the Church.
The Book of Acts bridges the chasm between the old and the new institutions. Jesus had fulfilled the old and laid the foundation for the new by His death, burial and resurrection.
The Book of Acts occupies an important place in the story of God’s plan for the salvation and redemption of man.
With out it we would find a deep gap between the Gospel narratives, concluding with John, and the twenty-one letters of the apostles beginning with Romans.
Author
Luke 1 Many have undertaken to compile a narrative about the events that have been fulfilled among us, just as the original eyewitnesses and servants of the word handed them down to us. So it also seemed good to me, since I have carefully investigated everything from the very first, to write to you in an orderly sequence, most honorable Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things about which you have been instructed.
Acts 1 I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach 2 until the day he was taken up, after he had given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.
Sermon Outlines on Acts (2. Authorship)
Luke, the author of the book, was “the beloved physician,” the traveling companion of Paul (Col. 4:14; 2 Tim. 4:11; Philem. 24).
English Standard Version (Chapter 4)
Colossians 4:14 ESV
Luke the beloved physician greets you, as does Demas.
Philemon 23–24 (ESV)
Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends greetings to you, and so do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke, my fellow workers.
2 Timothy 4:9–11 (ESV)
Do your best to come to me soon. For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry.

Disciples instructions

A disciple is one that is under the instruction of someone else. In Christianity we are under the instructions of Jesus And His word. This is a life commited to faithful obedience
Matthew 21:28–32 (CSB)
28“What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘My son, go work in the vineyard today.’
29“He answered, ‘I don’t want to,’ but later he changed his mind and went.
30Then the man went to the other and said the same thing. ‘I will, sir,’ he answered, but he didn’t go.
31Which of the two did his father’s will?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.
32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.
Churches are filled with individuals who claim fidelity (Faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.) To the Gospel, Jesus, His Church, The Mission of God

You will receive power
δύναμις (dynamis). n. fem. power, deed of power. Literally, it describes the ability to perform an activity; by extension, it refers to someone in a position of power or the force of a person’s action.
This word covers a wide range of meanings in the nt, all of which are related to the broad concept of power. It can refer to capacity, as in the description, “the sun shining in its strength (dynamis)” (Rev 1:16) or competency, as when servants are given talents, “each one according to his own ability (dynamis)” (Matt 25:15). It can be used as a noun to describe a ruler in a position of power (e.g., Eph 1:21). New Testament authors portray God’s dynamis as something he brings into the world to reveal his purposes and to carry them. The word dynamis is also used as a term for miracles, both those done by Jesus (e.g., Matt 13:54; Mark 6:14) and by the apostles and other Christians (e.g., Acts 8:13; 1 Cor 12:10). With some frequency, nt authors link Jesus’ “power” (dynamis) with his “authority” (ἐξουσία, exousia; e.g., Luke 9:1; Rev 12:10). The word dynamis also functions as a description of God’s action in the gospel and its empowering effects in the life of the church (e.g., 2 Thess 1:11; 2 Cor 13:4; Heb 1:3; 1 Pet 1:5; Rev 19:1).
James 5:15 The prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up; if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.b 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.c
He’s Exclusive… The world can not receive Him. His mission is to the church and the Christian. It is useless for the sinner to pray for the coming of the Spirit. He came once to abide forever with the church (John 14:17). Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.

Sealed with the promised Holy Spirit
Eph 1:13 In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. 14 The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.
The Holy Spirit is referred to as the “deposit,” “seal,” and “earnest” in the hearts of Christians (2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Ephesians 1:13-14; 4:30). The Holy Spirit is God’s seal on His people, His claim on us as His very own. The Greek word translated “earnest” in these passages is arrhabōn which means “a pledge,” that is, part of the purchase money or property given in advance as security for the rest. The gift of the Spirit to believers is a down payment on our heavenly inheritance, which Christ has promised us and secured for us at the cross. It is because the Spirit has sealed us that we are assured of our salvation. No one can break the seal of God.
The Kings Seal
Any document bearing the impression of the royal seal was as good as a direct command of the king and forced his subjects to act accordingly.

Galatians 5:16–23 (CSB)
16I say, then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh.
17For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want.
18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity,
20idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions,
21envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things—as I warned you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.

Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
