In certain countries in order to catch apes they would have these narrow neck vessels and they would put corn in them and the ape would put there hand in the vessel to grab a fist full of corn but then get there hand stuck and they would they would fight and scream but they wouldn’t let go of the corn and eventually be captured. But all this foolish ape needed to do is to release the corn then they would be freed.
This is how it is with greed and attachments all we need to do is let it go and we will be freed. But we can be more concerned about the corn then we all about God, people, and our very own lives.
Greed is like a sport to satan. All he needs to do is to show you the lastest car, new shoes, or new book, new ice cream at brooms bloom.
All sections of this society were corrupt
Jeremiah 6:13 NKJV
“Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them, Everyone is given to covetousness; And from the prophet even to the priest, Everyone deals falsely.
The people of Israel were greedy for unjust gain.
They didn’t want to do it Gods way they wanted to do it there way.
They didn’t want prosperity Gods way but they wanted it there way.
See greed impatient its indeed impulsive.
The mind set is I have to have it and right now.
My wife was telling me about Willie Wonka and how all the kids were greedy for candy. There was a little girl on there that said, “I don’t care how, I want it now”
You know its greed when I’m willing to use deceit to get what i want.
You start hiding things from your spouse. Extra cup cakes in the night stand.
Hiding extra money from your spouse. Separate account
Or you hoping your spouse don’t look at the credit card info.
You willing to damage meaningful relationships in order to get what you want.
Or damage people in general to get what you want.
I was talking to one Pastor in Budapest he said its normal to lie about business, buying and trading its normal. Deceit is always coupled with greed.
Vs 13 Israels greed wasn’t limited to one type of person but it says from the least of them to the greatest. From the prophet to the priest there was greed.
They weren’t content with what God has given them so they wanted more. From the priest to the prophet
I have read of a millionaire in France, who was a miser ( which is a person who hoards wealth and spends as little as possible). In order to make sure of his wealth, he dug a cave in his wine cellar so large and deep that he could go down into it with a ladder. The entrance had a door with a spring lock. After a time, he was missing. Search was made, but they could find no trace of him. At last his house was sold, and the purchaser discovered this door in the cellar. He opened it, went down, and found the miser lying dead on the ground, in the midst of his riches. The door must have shut accidentally after him, and he perished miserably.
The same thing you want to protect ends up becoming the death of you. And maybe not death in the physical sense but spiritual death, relational death, and that greed becomes your god.
Greed speaks of a board soul.
Habakkuk 2:5 (NKJV)
“Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man, And he does not stay at home. Because he enlarges his desire as hell, And he is like death, and cannot be satisfied, He gathers to himself all nations And heaps up for himself all peoples.
Greed is having enlarged desires as hell. Everyone that is in hell is because of greed.
They had enlarged desires as hell.
How many desires are in hell. How many dreams are in hell, billions upon billions of unmet desires.
Its just discontent and a broad array or desires.
Nothings wrong with working hard but when I become a workaholic I have enlarged desires.
Nothing wrong with money but when I began to love it is when it becomes a problem.
Nothings wrong with friends but when I become unequally yoked is when I fall into temptation.
2 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
This verse is usually used for marriages, but it has a broader meaning. The phrase unequally yoke is the same as don’t become an ally with an unbeliever.
Barrett paraphrases it well, “You must not get into double harness with unbelievers” (“harness yourselves in an uneven team,”
“Paul has in mind an alliance with spiritual opposites, and the image of harnessing oneself to someone who is spiritually incompatible evokes images of spiritual disaster. Those who bear Christ’s yoke (Matt 11:30) cannot share it with others who deny Christ. Those who harness themselves together with unbelievers will soon find themselves plowing Satan’s fields.”
Image one ox going in one direction and the other going in the other. one will eventually yield to the other and its usually the believer.
Isaiah 56:11 NKJV
Yes, they are greedy dogs Which never have enough. And they are shepherds Who cannot understand; They all look to their own way, Every one for his own gain, From his own territory.
Because of there greedy God just took everything away.
Jeremiah 8:10 NKJV
Therefore I will give their wives to others, And their fields to those who will inherit them; Because from the least even to the greatest Everyone is given to covetousness; From the prophet even to the priest Everyone deals falsely.
Greed always leads to hate and jealousy.
Jeremiah 22:17 NKJV
“Yet your eyes and your heart are for nothing but your covetousness, For shedding innocent blood, And practicing oppression and violence.”
Greed skus motivation
Micah 3:11 NKJV
Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, and say, “Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.”
False prophets always promise pleasant things that please for a time.
Jeremiah 6:14 NKJV
They have also healed the hurt of My people slightly, Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.
Slightly- Superficially
They put a bandaid over a gunshot womb.
Saying everything’s okay when its really not.
Jerome: Idol temples had fallen before the standard of the cross and the severity of the gospel. Now, on the contrary, lust and gluttony endeavor to overthrow the solid structure of the cross.
False prophets always promise pleasant things and please for a time
