And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
Pray for a greater understanding of wisdom.
Progression to this Point
Spirit of the Fear of the Lord - the knowing of what is on the Father’s Heart
Spirit of Knowledge - intellectual comprehension that engages all of our senses
Spirit of Counsel - hearing the voice of the Lord to even begin to make sense of what He desires
Spirit of Might/Power - the ability to do what He wants
It may feel like “I get it… Listen to the Lord, decide on what He wants, do what I have decided to do…” Ok but how?
We come across sections of scripture like this…
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.
For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like.
But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
were left with the same that we started with… Yes but how?
worse off when we develop that imposter syndrome… Am I really…?
OK pastor what does all of this have to do with the verse you opened with?
Today we deal with the Spirit of Wisdom….
we have the Spirit of Knowledge… The Fear of the Lord… The Counsel of the Lord… the Power (ability) to decided for the Lord… Let me expand
Disciples as an example
They had received the heart of the Lord (Great Commission) Fear of the Lord
They were given countless examples of the how to (Jesus) Knowledge
Granted the guidance (Holy Spirit) Counsel
Granted the ability to make the decision (not yet to act) (Holy Spirit) Power/Might
what else is needed?
what about when it is something you have no idea how to do?
what if its something that is so massive I would not even be able to make sense of?
All throughout scripture we come across sections of scripture like the one I opened with and are tempted to dismiss it as for them and not for us.

Wisdom is ALREADY at work in you.

“For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
Paul expresses to the Corinthian church how flawed human knowledge can be and those of us who have the Spirit of God can rely on the mind of Christ for our knowledge.
vv.5-6 wisdom is found in God…
vv. 7 was hidden but now is revealed to us
vv. 14 it is the Spirit who enables us to make sense of such wisdom
vv.15 gives us the ability to discern…
the Wisdom of the Lord pushes you away from human reasoning… draws you to the mind of the Lord… defies your logic… the greatest aspect IT IS ALREADY AT WORK IN YOU

and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,
The sword is the the word of God…
Heb 4 tells us that this word is sharper than any two edged sword…
ok so you memorized scripture and you recite it… (not a bad thing)
Let’s move into maturity a bit…
the word for the word of God
not Logos… written word
Rhema… a spoken word
Today many people believe God no longer speaks… whatever He wants to say He has already spoken in scripture…
Open your bible and tell me where it says Mike go be a pastor… Mike go and be a defender of God’s people… Mike this is what what you're reading means…
Now Heb 4 makes sense God is speaking… yes His written word gives you knowledge but unless He is speaking you will not understand…
He breathes His Spirit instructs, teaches, forms…
Pierces and divides the soul and Spirit
there are things we want that are incongruent with the Spirit His word divides
The Wisdom of the Lord is breathed on you it is a SPOKEN WORD…He is not just telling you what is on His heart which would create empty HEAD KNOWLEDGE… He counsels you, gives you the ability to decide… He instructs you on how
Remember that the one who HEARS but does not DO… is deceiving themselves.

If we were to reduce wisdom or conflate it with just knowledge we are going to miss it…
I can teach you what I know… the years in seminary and then later at CCU and the work of the PHd. along with my time in Chaplaincy but all I would have done is I would give you knowledge you may not know how to use…
I cannot give you what I do not have… I can teach you knowledge but unless I have the wisdom I cannot impart wisdom.
Even if I could my wisdom is limited…
Let me go back to how I started
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.”
But he answered, “It is written, “ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”
wait… this is not the verse I opened with…
Deut 8:3 gives us the knowledge Matt 4:1-4 shows us wisdom in action
Interesting to see Deut He humbled and He let you hunger before feeding
Matt Jesus led by the Spirit to hunger and then to be fed
God speaks and He gives the plans… He Speaks and gives the ability… He Speaks and gives the counsel…. He speaks and will tell you just how to do it…
God Speak and He gives the tools, skills and ability to accomplish what He has asked of you…
who among us thinks salvation is the end?
Even coming out of the series on Liberation we may consider just reconnecting to the Lord is it…
but if our Bread is liberation… and man will not live on bread alone
salvation is not the end it is the start… liberation is not the end a part of … however,
We will LIVE on every word that comes from the mouth of God
We can no longer say we cannot hear God speak… for when He speaks we receive wisdom the tools and skills to accomplish what He has purposed for us
Today if you lack wisdom or feel like you do not have the ability or know how to accomplish what He has spoken we have a promise
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.
Lord I want to do what You have spoken over me… (fear of the Lord)
The more I know you the more I am drawn to your Heart (Spirit of Knowledge)
I come to you Lord to Hear what is on your Heart… Your will Your Way (Spirit of Counsel)
Fill me with your Holy Spirit that I would have the ability courage strength to say Yes to you (Spirit of Power)
I don’t know how to do what you are asking so equip me make me adept to do your desire (Spirit of Wisdom)
it is given without reproach… not because you are perfect or guiltless… not even because you earned it… He gives wisdom because of His generosity
the only caveat is we ask with faith without doubting…
for those who believe… nothing is impossible… nothing…
He is able to give wisdom that far supersedes our own ability.
