What is your goal for 2025?

I am not talking necessarily about new year resolutions, though it can be that, but instead what do you hope to achieve or develop this year.

2025: Developing Disciples

As I have done some thinking this past couple weeks about what I am going to try and use as a measuring stick for all I do it is this: developing disciples. This is a theme you will hear, Lord willing, often in my preaching, teaching and ministering among us this year.

The Word of God is foundational for a disciple.

We cannot be disciples of Jesus if we are not in the Word.

What is the Word of God?

This is a natural question and our text this morning will help illuminate the answers.

The Word is God.

John makes it explicitly clear in our text. When we read Scripture we are not just readings words by a mere human being like you or me.

The Word is Jesus.

The Word is not just God in the sense of a divine being we cannot know but can read their words. It is a person.

Implication: our interpretation of Scripture cannot contradict Jesus.

If we interpret any portion of Scripture in a way contrary to the character and person of Jesus it is our thoughts on Scripture which are wrong.

Suggestion: Read Scripture through a Christ-centered lens.

Not that we find Jesus in every page so to speak but that all of Scripture points to Him in one way, shape or form.

The Word illuminates our reality.

Darkness cannot overcome the Word of God and the Bible will illuminate what our reality is, whether we like it or not. We do not have to agree with what it says but it will shine brightly into all areas of life.

The Word is powerful and will transform all of life.

Just like in Genesis 1 the powerful Word of God spoke and things came into being, so it is with the Bible. It will transform life.
Do you need truth? Grace? Life? Light? Then read the Bible, the Word of God.
