Introduction
John 1:29–34 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.”
Luke 3:22 “And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
The Christian life could be summed up with this one word, “obedience.” Obedience characterized the life of our Saviour.
Hebrews 5:8–9 “Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;”
So the Saviour set the standard; we all should strive for this same standard in our lives. Tonight I would like to introduce you to The Blessings of Obedience!
The Demands of Obedience Characterized - Jesus said, “Permit it to be so”
True Confession - Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
1 John 4:15 “Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.”
True Submission - 1 Peter 5:6–7 “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
True Devotion - James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
2. The Delights of Obedience Characterized - “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
