This Sunday, we return to John 3:17–18 and the mission of the Son to save from divine condemnation a people out of world. These verses have as much to do with Christmas as any passage in Luke 1-2 or Matthew 1. Why did God send his Son? Not condemn the world, but to save it. This is the message of Christmas. It is a message evergreen, always relevant. There is nothing we know better than our sin and guilt before God.
