Discipleship 202: Part 2
Part 2
Holy Spirit Part One
The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit
The Person of the Holy Spirit
• The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity, sharing in the one divine nature.
• He is a divine person, not a power, force, or influence.
• Being fully God, the Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son in nature, power, and glory, but he is distinct from them in terms of his relation and roles.
• As the fully divine Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is worthy of worship, obedience, trust, and service.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
The inseparable operations of the Triune God mean that the three persons always work together in creation, redemption, and consummation.
• Still, their roles can be distinguished, which means that the Holy Spirit is particularly associated with certain divine works.
• The Spirit carries out the divine will in the world and brings it to completion, with special reference to speaking, applying salvation through re-creating and perfecting, and indwelling God’s people so they are filled with his presence.
