Luther described it as the “pure gospel”. No biblical book has a greater impact on the churches theology than Romans.
Calvin comments that The letter to the Romans has a far reaching influence on Christianity.
One commentator said about Romans, is Paul’s letter of recommendation for Paul. Paul has a missions trip to Spain that he has planned and he needs support. Paul cannot hope to garner the support of the Christians in Rome unless they are supportive of and understand the gospel that he preaches, so he uses the letter to put his gospel theology before them, chapter 7 and eight makes clear that Romans have probably heard from Rector as of Paul’s ministry and gospel. He needed support from the Romans so he had articulate what his gospel was gonna be to the Spaniards.
