Mission of SR Kids

Hey SR Kids team,

I am excited to have you as part of our childrens ministry here at SouthRidge and it is a priviledge to serve alongside each of you.

The question I hope to answer through this video is Whats the purpose of SR Kids? Whats the point of our ministry?

I believe the answer to theis question lays at the foundation of our ministry and infact our very lives.

The thing about a church, is that church isnt the building in which we meet. The church is the gathered people of God, consiting of those who have entered into a personal relationship with Jeus through faith.

As a church, we exsist to live out the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

and the Great Commandment in Matthew 22:37-39

Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Therefore you and I as disciples of Jesus are on a misson to

Love God, Change the World, One Life at a Time.

This is why we exsist as a chuch and as a childrens ministry.

Naturtally, the next question we ask is How do we do this? How do we fulfill our mission as a church and in our context as a one who serves within SR Kids.

Well for that we look to our Five Discipleship Rhythms as a guide. As a church we have identified within Scripture five different rhythms for our lives as we are on the jounery of becoming more and more like Jesus.

These five include:

Celebrate Big- (Kids Version: Celebrate God)

Coming together as the church to celebrate who God is and what he has done in our lives. We are called to celebrate God regardless of our circumstances.

Serve one Another (Kids Version: Serve Others)

To love one another and use our spiritual gifts to help advance the Kingdom of God and encourage the church. Spiritual gifts are a guaranteed place of power to serve from. When we work within our spiritual gifts, we will experience joy and unity and that unity will be a witness to the community

Engage the Mission (Kids Version: Share your Faith)

To turn outward and share the Gospel with a world that desperately needs it. But we are not expected to do this by ourselves, we are called to do this together because together we achieve more. God gives us opportunities to be generous with our time and money to invest in Kingdom initiatives both locally and globally

Community with a Few (Kids Version: Be Together)

We can only find authentic community when we do life together with small groups of people. Our Community Groups are an example of a place where you will be encouraged in your spiritual journey and cared for when things don’t go well.

Follow Jesus Daily (Kids Version: Follow Jesus Everyday)

We have to take personal responsibility for our own discipleship journey. We believe that spiritual disciplines like prayer, solitude, reading God’s word and many others are guaranteed places to encounter Jesus. When you commit to following Jesus daily, we know that it may not always be an emotional experience, but if you intentionally follow Jesus, we know that the Holy Spirit will change your life.

With those Rhythms now in full view the answer to the How question “How do we achive our mission of loving God and chaging the world one life at a time”

is that our Sunday morning childrens ministry has elements of all these Rhythms within it but structurly our focus in on the two rhythms of Celebrate God and Be together.

Weekly you and I gather together as a large group to Celebrate God through our worship, our reading of Scripture and our celebration of who God is and what He has done for us through Jesus.

And, we Be Together with kids in small groups through activities and prayer where we can encourage them in their spiritually jounery and care for them.

As part of our SR Kids team, you are living our your discipleship to Jesus and Serving one Another as you invest your time, talents and spiriutal gifts into the the kids at SouthRidge throughing Being together and Celebrating God who has created us and sent his son to rescue us.

This is our mission in SR Kids and may God continue to make you more and more like Jesus as we change the world together, one life at a time.
