Safety

Hey Team,

For the next couple minutes we are going to talk about keeping kids safe and the practices we use to do so. Each of you has read through and signed off on our Child Protection Policy and this video is the practical outworking of the policy.

I want to begin by mentioning that as a child enters SR Kids, they are leaving the care of those that brought them and are now under your care and supervision, so following these practices will ensure everyone is safe and cared for.

Lets begin with our check in system

Our childrens ministry uses a safe and secure check in system for families to use each week as they check in their kids. Each family receives a new weekly generated 3-digit code that which includes a name tag with this code for the child and a matching code for the one who drops them off.

Once a child arrives, you will write down their first name and code onto our attendance sheet and then opon pick up, the parent/guardian will show you the matching code to ensure they are they correct person for their pickup. If the parents code is lost, please dorect them to see Jon or Rylea to reprint their code.

2. As I mentioned each room has a clipboard with an attached check in sheet for you to fill out each week and should stay with the leader at all times, this means for those of you in our elemntary program that move to a different room as part of the program, please take your attendance clipboard with you. In the event of a emergency or evacuation, this clipbaord will allow us to ensure that every child that was in our care is accounted for.

Lets move onto how we handle washrooms and toileting. For our youngest ones in the Nursey, all diaper changes will be done by child’s parent/guardian. We page parents through our paging system, which we will talk about in a bit.

For children within the preschool program, they are able to use the washroom within the classroom and if assistance is needed, please keep the door open and any assistance should only be done by the the room leader and is possible by leaders of the same gender. The best option is to have the parent/ guardian help with washroom assistance.

In our elementary program, as the group leader you can send the children in pairs to use the washroom.

As a rule, you should never be alone with a child.

3. Next lets chat about our parent paging. This is the way we connect with parents on Sunday mornings regarding their kids.

For those serving with our Nursery/Preschool Groups: Your paging of parents will primairly be because of

A child that cannot settle after a few minutes

Any diapers needing to be changes

Any accidents involving their child

For those in elemetary,

a parent page may be needed if the child is refusing to follow instructuions or is causing any hard to themselves or others.

All of our Nursery & Preschool rooms have a computer or tablet, which has our “Parent Paging Icon” to be used to contact parents. Once opened you will enter the child 3-digit code and then the room number and hit send. If after no one arrives, you can repeat this process and contact Rylea or I.

For any minor or major emergency, please contact Rylea or I or a staff member immediately. In the event of a fire, please ensure the fire alarm has been pulled and then line the kids up and lead them to the nearest safe stairwell and out of the building and proceed to the front of the building.
