Introduction
Paul, in his letters to the church of Roman believers assuming Jewish believers based upon is content we find this letter of systematic theology. He begins with dealing with the depravity of man, sin and salvation. He skilfully paints a picture of the grace of God and hope for humanity. As Paul continues his approach to the text, he unpacks the grace of God towards Israel and that they are not forgotten in chapter 11 and that the gospel is a part of the process. Then, he shifts into a transitional thought when he gets to chapter 12 as his focus changes. This shift is now behavioral application. He writes:
Romans 12:1–3 “1 Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.”
