Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV
For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:
Georgia coach Kirby Smart's father, Sonny, died early Saturday morning after suffering complications from hip surgery he underwent following a fall in New Orleans before the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the school announced. He was 76.
"Sonny fell while walking during the day on New Year's Eve in New Orleans and fractured his hip.”
Kirby Smart spent part of New Year's Day with his father at the hospital after the Sugar Bowl was pushed back to Thursday because of a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in which a pickup truck driver killed 14 people and injured dozens more.
The Georgia coach returned to the hospital shortly after the Bulldogs' 23-10 loss to Notre Dame in a CFP quarterfinal Thursday.
Marcus Freeman shared at halftime that helped spark Notre Dame's comeback effort. “He said 'History is written by conquerors, and we're holding the pen,'”
“The Most productive people on Earth get the same amount of time you and I get.”
“When it comes to time, you and I are rich. In fact we’re loaded. Time doesn’t discriminate. With the two exceptions of the day you’re born and the day you die, everyone gets exactly the same amount of time every day.”
We can all fall into the same trap:
“Spending the most time on what matters least, and the least time on what matters most.”
Do you feel like you use the excuse “I just don’t have the time for that?”
The Stress Spiral Vs. The Thrive Cycle
Today I want to deal with “Focused Time”
One word I want to deal with: “Hijacked”
Hijacked:
unlawfully seize (an aircraft, ship, or vehicle) in transit and force it to go to a different destination or use it for one's own purposes.
to seize possession or control of (a vehicle) from another person by force or threat of force. specifically : to seize possession or control of (an aircraft) especially by forcing the pilot to divert the aircraft to another destination.
Galatians 6:8 ESV
For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
Sows: to cultivate ⇔ sow v. — to cultivate, conceived of as sowing seeds for growth.
cultivating takes work.
The term "cultivating" generally means to foster growth, develop, or prepare something with intention and care.
what you invest your life into will determine what you receive in return.
“Invest” General Definition: To commit time, money, effort, or resources to something with the expectation of gaining a return or benefit.
Effort and Time:
Whether you’re investing in relationships, finances, or personal development, it takes consistent effort to nurture and grow what you’ve invested in.
Have you ever felt! That your time, energy, and priorities have been hijacked by your “flesh”
Galatians 5:17 ESV
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Desires: to crave v. — to have an intense desire for some particular thing.
Conflict: The flesh and the Spirit have opposing goals—one desires sin and temporary gratification, while the other desires holiness and eternal life.
Let’s be honest…
I have allowed my flesh to hijack
My Time
My Energy
My Priorities
Let’s just talk about hijacked times…
Time I spent on people that were no good for me…. (Unhealthy relationships)
Time I spent fulfilling my desires…
Recognizing that our flesh has "hijacked" our time is a huge step toward reclaiming it and realigning ourself with God’s purpose for our life.
I have to have a mental shift on how I focus my time… I have to shift how I am investing my time…
Mental shift 1
“Tell the truth about time”
“Stop saying you don’t have the time. Start admitting you didn’t make the time.”
I did have time to pray today… I just didn’t take it
I did have time to read a scripture today… I just didn’t take it
I did have time to spend with my daughter today… I just didn’t take it
I did have time to call my brother today.. I just didn’t take it
“Eliminate the excuses, and you start to move forward, because you can make excuses or you can make progress, but you can’t make both.”
Tell yourself:
I do have the time to work out
I do have the time to pray
I do have the time to write a book
I do have time to read a bed time story to my child
I do have time rest and relax
I do have time to read my Bible
I do have time to go to coffee with a friend
My time will not be hijack by my flesh but it will be led by the Spirit!
Mental Shift 2
“Embrace Passion”
John Wesley
“Set yourself on fire with passion, and people will come from miles to watch you burn.”
Passion is an intense feeling of enthusiasm, love, or excitement about something or someone.
Passion helps us push through challenges because it reminds us of why we care so deeply.
“The key to living passionately is to focus your time on what is truly most important to you and to choose to do those things wholeheartedly, with enthusiasm.”
What are you waiting for?
You have work to do…
You have a purpose
You are gifted
You are called.
You are equipped.
You are chosen.
You are capable.
You are enough.
You are empowered.
No MORE TIME TO WASTE!
“The best strategy is to focus your time on the things and people that matter most. When you allow something into your calendar and life, make it a new goal to pursue is passionately.”
