The Pursue of Holiness
The book of Hebrews writer is unknown, but it was writing in between 60 and 70 ad. The writer of Hebrews encourages the Jewish Christians to continuous trust in God. The Jewish Christians was being persecuted. To the point where they were losing their jobs and business. The Jews was debating to go back to Judaism. The writer of Hebrews encourages them to stay with Jesus. The writer explain how that Jesus is the fulfillments of the Law. Including Jesus is God in the flesh (10:5-7).
It does so by focusing on the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ. While God spoke in the past “many times and in many ways,” he has now spoken to us “by his Son,” Jesus Christ, who is the “exact imprint” of God’s nature and who “upholds the universe by the word of his power” (1:1-3). Jesus accomplished complete salvation for all who trust in him (1:1–10:18). We dare not “neglect such a great salvation” (2:3; 5:12–6:20; 10:19-39). Rather, in our faith and in our everyday living, we should imitate the example of Christ and of those on the honor roll of faith (chs. 11–13).
In the book of Hebrews 12 chapter, the writer is reminding us to look unto Jesus. The one who is the author and finisher of our faith. The writer reminds us that Jesus have suffer shame for our behalf. He took on our death for us. Jesus did not deserve the punishment, but because He love us, he was willing to go to the cross for us. Jesus endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Therefore, if you are a child of God, you will be chastened. For if anyone man who do not want to be chastened, you are not none of his. Who God loves, he chastened them, and he scourge them. If you endure chastening, God deal with you as with sons.
So, if you respect your father in the flesh who chastened you, then why is it a problem when God do the same? When God chastened you, it is for your development for you to partake of his holiness. When getting chastened, you can product good fruit of righteousness. The writer wants them to make a straight path. Reminding of Jeremiah 6:16. And Isaiah 35:8. No matter what, God want us to follow peace with everyone. But without holiness, you will not see God.
It is so easy to go back on God when it seen like you are the only one who follow God. When the whole world is against you. Inspired of it, we must remain holy to God. We must pursue holiness. To pursue is to go after something or someone. You want to pursue Holiness to the point that you will not let anything to get in the way. Apostle Paul talking about not letting anything get in the way (Romans 8:35-39). To be like our God, we must love the things that He love, and hate the things he hates. To pursue Holiness, confirm our Justification. Holiness describe God goodness and power. Since God is Holy, there is no trace of evil in Him. To be born of God, you must be born again.
Therefore, we cannot act like devils and act like we know him. When we get connect with Him, we become like Him through the word, pray, and fellowship with the Holy God through the word. If you want God, you must let go of the world. If you don’t want to let go of the world because you love the world, the love of the father is not in you. You cannot have God and the world. To be friend will the world is to be an enemy to God.
Since no sin can stand in God’s presence, Christians must—and will be—sinless when they see the Lord (cf. 1 John 3:2). That realization offers motivation for pursuing holiness here and now. Holiness—a distinct Greek word from God’s “holiness” (Heb 12:10). Translate here “sanctification.” His is absolute holiness: our part is to put on His holiness, becoming “holy as He is holy,” by sanctification. While “following peace with all men,” we are not so to seek to please them, as to make God’s will and our sanctification a secondary object; this latter must be our first aim. (Ga 1:10).
When God saved a person, He cut them off from the world. Therefore, there cannot be friendship between God and the world. As a Christian, there cannot be a friendship between you and the world.
We are in the time that our saint ship is on trial. There are laws that have been pass. They want us to bend to their ways. But to be like God, we must hate the sins. People want you to be ok with sin. Sin is stink to God. You can’t worship God and smell like the world. We can’t be having one foot to the world and the other to God. One must go. You can’t serve two masters. Peter state that he rather to obey God than man. In 1 Thessalonians 5:22-23, We must Abstain for all appearance of evil. We must get away for thing that be the appearance of evil. We must watch our conversation and our action.
We must be Holy as God is Holy, we must lay beside every weight and sin. We must be sober and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. From the beginning God want up to be holy. Where will be time what when you put on holiness, you will see Jesus for as he is. Jesus will reveal his self to you. and everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. Since we have these promises, we must clean ourselves for all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
God want us to present our body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. God have chosen us before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love. To be holy is to be clean from all the worldly things. We don’t always have to follow all the trend of the world. We don’t have to participate in everything. We must keep our robe clean so we can be present to God a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. To be holy is to be set apart. God can’t use many people because they are not set apart. We must walk in the path of Holiness. Stay on the road of Holiness. Stay on the highway of Holiness. Because no one who is unclean cannot travel on this road. It will be sad that those who claim to walk in the way of God, won’t make it in.
