Introduction

He was a man in bondage

Mark 5:1–5 KJV 1900
And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

Physical Bondage

Emotional Bondage

Spiritual Bondage

Though no man could tame him or imprison him he was in bondage.
Sin places a person in bondage. Though they may be free to walk about the world their lives are entangled with physical, emotional, and spiritual bondage.

He had no power to overcome his bondage

Mark 5:5 KJV 1900
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

Jesus was the answer to his bondage

Mark 5:8 KJV 1900
For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

Jesus set the man free

Mark 5:15 KJV 1900
And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

All People are in Bondage

Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

No Person Has Power to Save Themselves

Titus 3:5 KJV 1900
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Jesus can set you Free

Romans 5:18–21 KJV 1900
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

In Christ, we are Free

Romans 6:11–14 KJV 1900
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Conclusion

Grow our Walk in Freedom

As Christians we need to Grow our Walk with Christ by growing in our freedom from sin.

Growing in Freedom allows us to Influence others for Christ

Mark 5:19–20 KJV 1900
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
