Text: Revelation 10–11
Doctrine: Resurrection
Bridge to Doctrine: When the beast from the Abyss kills God’s two testifying witnesses, God raises
them from the dead. This strikes terror in those watching and demonstrates God’s power over death.
By God’s command, the two prophets ascend to heaven.
Key Points and Insertion of Doctrine into Passage:
Revelation 11:11-12
● Jesus’s physical resurrection is the only source of true hope, available to all who trust Him for salvation.
● The foundation of the Christian faith rests on Jesus’s resurrection (1 Peter 1:3).
● Jesus died, paying the cost of humanity’s sin, and rose from the dead, proving He had conquered sin and its greatest penalty—death. Jesus’s resurrection proves God accepted His sacrifice on the cross (1 Corinthians 15:17).
● Jesus’s resurrection foreshadows a future day when all who believe in Him will be resurrected in glorified bodies and into an eternal state, never again threatened by sin or death.
● Jesus’s resurrection life empowers a believer to turn from sin and live for God. By His power, God awakens our dead hearts to seek Him, forsake sin, and live for Christ.
● When I do not believe that Jesus rose from the dead, I fail to understand that God has defeated death and offered hope beyond this life. Even though I sense there should be more, my sights are limited to my fleeting lifespan on earth, which always comes up short in meeting my deepest needs.
● When I believe that Jesus conquered death when He rose from the grave, I experience lasting hope that nothing can take away. I face my own death and eternity with certainty that the
Savior who bore my sin will bring me to my eternal home. I will be resurrected in a glorified body and live forever with my risen Savior.
